So, my housemate mentioned the Jedi Knight series the other day...

I'm currently in grad school, and am sharing an apartment with two undergraduates. They are quite a bit younger than I am (10+ years younger).

My one housemate plays video games occasionally, and knows that I do as well. A few days ago, while I was cooking dinner, he casually asked "Have you ever played any older games where the cut scene graphics are so bad that you just can't take the game seriously?"

I asked him which game he was referring to (while thinking that there was a good chance that I'd played that game when it first came out). Sure enough, he had been playing Jedi Academy. I replied that of course I had played Jedi Academy. I proceeded to tell him that I'd played the predecessor to the predecessor to the predecessor to the predecessor to Jedi Academy (Dark Forces) when that game had first been released. I also told him that I used to make custom maps for some of those games, and had also helped to administrate a site dedicated to the sharing of custom maps and playing of those games.

It's not often that the DF/JK series comes up randomly in my personal life but it's always nice to reflect upon the heyday of those games and the height of Massassi's popularity. :)

Tell him that his cutscene graphics are so bad that I can't take his game seriously. God damn.

Haha, yeah. In my head, I was a little bit like "Really? I mean, yeah, the game is dated, sure... but that's your example of an 'old game with bad graphics?'"

Is that "look at this old man that's contented", or "look at this content, old man"?
nope.

Also, terrible or not, I always preferred in-game cutscenes to pre-rendered cutscenes.

I really don't get why he decided to give up acting. Not enough work perhaps? That isn't a thing you easily forget about, let alone turn your back on during your best days. Maybe he was stigmatized after doing video game cut scenes. I know Jerec went on to do the Nazi dude in that cool Star Trek prequel series.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I don't think he necessarily "gave up," "forgot about," "turned his back on," or was "stigmatized by" anything. I think he probably loved wine and winemaking and decided to pursue that instead? You make it sound like such a failure :P

My memory could be foggy, or I'm simply biased, but I thought he did a good job in JK. It's not really failure, more like a missed opportunity.

I went to look that guy up on the IMDb, and I had no idea how established he already was before JK, at least judging by the fact that he had been in some really popular stuff.

Apparently he's mostly been doing bit parts, though.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.
