I honestly expected this style of game to take off a couple years ago. I played a couple xbox arcade titles and it just seemed like an obvious way for 2D obsessed designers to reach into the 3rd perspective while remaining low budget/tech. This looks cool.

Well, to be honest, I've only gone with this sidescroller template because it's the most extensive (might even say the best) gameplay template on UnrealEngine.com at the moment (you don't really need to buy GFX or animations or anything like that for it, unlike with most of the other templates). In fact, the author of this sidescroller template is working on a third-person shooter equivalent, and I'm gonna switch to that one once it's released (even if I have to do all the work w.r.t. changed menus etc. again!).
