Do something nice (for someone else) today
2017-08-07, 8:16 PM #1
This is a thread for doing something nice today, every day. It can be for a loved one, a stranger, or anyone else.

I'm going to help my dad move / install a boiler today in one of his flats, and then I'm going to get my fiance a pair of headphones because the ones she has are falling apart and she needs them for work (to isolate herself from surrounding sounds as she edits).

This thread shouldn't be about me! Just do something nice for someone else / plan to do it (and then execute), and post here. :)

Okay, here goes: take a well deserved break from posting on this forum
2017-08-07, 8:21 PM #3
Wow, that's very nice of you indeed!

But you didn't follow the suggestion...?

K, k.

I will.

Just for you RJ.

Just for you.

Take care.

I was being sarcastic: the thread was about doing something nice for someone else, so I've deliberately misconstrued your post as your contribution of doing something nice on this forum is taking a break from posting (instead of asking me to stop, which was no doubt your intention).

CONFUSION IS OVER.

BADGERS!

ASSEMBLE!

Here's an experiment: I write a post, and you don't respond to it.

Do you think you can do that?
2017-08-08, 8:50 AM #10
Be nice.

Fair.

I hereby ban Reverend Jones for 7 days.
2017-08-08, 10:23 AM #14
Careful, you know that means you get tied up in the ban closet.

With me.

That's fine with me, since I was only masochistically following the golden rule by following my own suggestion in this thread.

Mods?

In my mind Reverend Jones (first time he'll ever have seen this) is Tom Cruise. Koobie is Rene Zellweger (definitely not the first time he's seen that).

Reverend Jones: You complete me.
Koobie: Shut up. Just shut up. You had me at take a well deserved break from posting on this forum.

I gave a couple that just moved into my building a free desk and chair today.

This was selfishly motivated though; I'm moving Saturday and just want everything gone from my apartment, so all I need to move is my clothing.
I had a blog. It sucked.

Look, isn't there an ignore button somewhere? If you hate me so much, just put me on ignore, and your idyllic life shall no longer be disturbed.

As for doing good things, well, I bought the headphones, but we didn't quite manage to do what we were planning to with my dad yesterday (which is removing a boiler, high up on the wall) as the damn thing was too heavy for the two us of us, so today we're gonna have another crack at it with some help. Cant wait. :/

Why would you think I hate you?

He misunderstood the post he quoted.

Koobie, the colons indicated dialogue in this case, not commentary directed at RJ and you. "Shut up. Just shut up. You had me at take a well deserved break from posting on this forum" is your Rene Zellweger line.

Thanks for the clarification, saberopus. :)

He's right, Wookie06, I misunderstood your creative use of colons. ;)

I have not heard of Renee Zellweger until now. She's pretty and she got a BAFTA award! I want a BAFTA award too! :) :) :)

Also, Philips headphones -- don't buy them. We gonna go change em today. Seriously, kinda annoyed. I mean, I bought them for about $25 and not $250, but I thought the brand would guarantee quality. Sound is fine but they press on your ears too much! And the whole point of getting them was for sound isolation (ie., wearing them through the entire workday), so my do-good-for-someone post today is a tip to yall:

Don't buy Philips SHP2000 headphones. They're just not comfortable.

I have these cheapo Panasonic earbuds from Amazon. I think they may be the bestsellers or whatever, but they should be easy to find. They fit well, have good sound, and are perfect for the office, which is where I use them. FYI.

I thought the odds an adult hadn't seen Jerry McGuire to be quite low. Not a knock, just the movie's such a classic but it's like twenty years old now. Anyway, add the movie to your list of things to watch.

I've seen a little bit of Jerry Maguire, but TBH it's way low on the list of things I haven't seen but feel like I ought to. Do you quite like it, or is it just kinda one of those essential movies from its era, or...?
2017-08-11, 4:01 PM #27
Guess it would help if I spelled the name right. I haven't watched it in years but I always could. I think it's a classic. I don't know if it's an era movie or what. I thought it was fairly original and plenty of energy from the cast.

It's a romance dressed up as a man-movie, just like Top Gun and Days of Thunder. I never understood it. It's the movie version of hiding peas in your lasagne.
2017-08-11, 7:34 PM #29
Funny. I was going to mention Top Gun and Days of Thunder. Probably among his worst films but terrific in their own way. Cruise films are weird that way.

I know I was supposed to be banned for seven days, but I think an early jail break is appropriate given my invocation of the Rick Sanchez image macro.

Ugh. I confess there may be some kind of INFP exclusion principle at play here.
