I never liked the idea of a trailer for a trailer. Now we watch reaction videos of breakdowns of trailers for trailers. It's ridiculous. Also I'm old and grumpy. Stay off my lawn.

I suggest watching the video, at least until they get to the trailer.

I watched the first 45 seconds, but I couldn't finish it because I don't want to and I hate those guys.

If I wanted to know what someone else thought about something, I'd watch some YouTube personality (whether a real one or making fun of real ones) blabber on about it for too long - of course before the plug at the end asking to like & subscribe or otherwise advertise their channel at the end goddammit i hate social media dear fuc-----------------

    AHEM

As for the Solo thing, eh, my interest remains on that one (and the Obi-Fett things, for that matter) the same level as my interest did for the 2008 Clone Wars CGI movie.

I can't see Han Solo as anyone other than (young) Harrison Ford. The actor and the character are too ingrained for me.

The movie would interest me if it was this weird 70's action, central-character focused film.

Seriously. I wish that they had CGI'ed him like they did to Tarkin/Leia in Rogue One.

A whole film with that? Oh man, talk about an unnerving experience.

While we wait for the Solo trailer, a new trailer for the Guardians of the Galaxy and Fifth Element mashup film dropped this morning.

I get why they do it, and I get that it's effective, but gosh it gives me douche chills when they do that:

    "Your name?"
-Character looks up, scene cuts before he says anything
    -Cut to titles

Yeahh, yahooo, we know who it is, haha, hell yes, we know what he was about to say! He would've said Han Solo, but he didn't need to!

I'm getting this impression from what I've seen that Disney wants this mess of a movie out soon. The trailer comes just a few months before release too.

So this is 2018's Star Wars movie. What's next year's SW movie? The final part of the new trilogy already? I wouldn't be surprised that this type of release schedule, at least to me, made Last Jedi felt like it was rushed.

They should've named the main character Has Nolo and then maybe I wouldn't hate it.

I think Star Wars movies are starting to look more like iterations of the Power Rangers. Same gig each time, different costumes and theme. Looks like they've even found a surrogate Leia type character.

I think the bigger issue though is that the trailer makes the movie look like something DC would make.

No kidding. Lando's a thin enough character that there's plenty of interesting things they could have done. Han "I left the acaaaademy because I wanted to think for myseeeeelf" Solo, maybe not as much.

It seems like the dream of an expanded Star Wars cinematic universe would be where there's not so much tone control from the studio, where Lord/Miller can do the weird stuff they want, where Disney hires Rian Johnson and lets him make a more Brothers Bloom-y or Brick-y movie, where they do what Disney did w/ The Prisoner of Azkaban (though w/ original scripts, of course). I want to see Shane Carruth's Star Wars spinoff (though perhaps he wouldn't be interested in that). Anyway, this was never going to happen, I guess.

Things are fine enough as they are, but I'm definitely transitioning into feeling about Star Wars movies how I started to feel about Marvel movies a couple years ago. Yeah, they're competently made, even good, but seeming increasingly rote.

I just read that the creators of the Game of Thrones TV show are set to make some new series of Star Wars films separate from the next main trilogy (which will be by Rian Johnson). I might be somewhat excited if TLJ had been a better movie, but now I'll approach anything new Star Wars with very low expectations. Unless of course they decided to make a new Dark Forces/JK.

I think the Benioff/Weiss trilogy is the same 'type' as the RJ one... another spinoff story not directly tied to the main saga.

What about the reverse direction. What if somebody made a Dark Forces TC where you control BB-8*?

Might as well just make an episodic show. I mean, now we got two new trilogies? How long can this go on?

They've kept certain things. Thrawn they brought back, Zahn even wrote the novel.
