Are we allowed to complain about Trump's friends, children, and cabinet members? What about sitting Republican congressmen? Judges? Can we complain about George W Bush? What's the line exactly?

Can we do zany jokes, like "an asteroid the size of Kentucky would do less damage to the United States than the state"?

Sure, you can do all those things, but only after making a best effort to infect threads other than the inauguration day thread with said Trump-adjacent material first.

Well she'll have to win the primaries first. But there was an editorial run in the WSJ in the last couple days where some Clinton affiliate was egging her on to run, and I almost interpreted it as satire.

Civil forfeiture cases get all the best names (see, e.g., State of New Jersey v. 1979 Pontiac Trans Am, 98 N.J. 474 (N.J. 1985) and State of South Dakota v. Fifteen Impounded Cats, 785 N.W.2d. 272 (S.D. 2010)).

Alas, will we never see such insane court case names again?

How in the hell did I miss this? My all time favorite car posted by my one time nemesis here? I apologize for everything Michael.

A 400ci V8 with a whopping 200hp!
2019-02-20, 8:10 PM #29
Hey, that's how it was in the late 70s. That car was better than the Corvette that year. My 79 TA has the even less desirable Olds 403 that was rated at 185 HP that most of them got. I still haven't finished the car but I imagine it does a bit better now. It's been bored .030 over with an Edelbrock Performer intake and the exhaust stops at the Hooker Headers. Depressing but I've done basically nothing to the car in the past 17 years. I did have a bunch of bodywork done back in 03-05 though.

Here's an example of where time and money have prevented me from doing something!

Whatever happened to science fiction authors like Jules Verne who tried to accurately estimate what would become real technology some day?

Like Paris in the 20th Century. Accurate estimates but people hated how "pessimistic" it was. Lul.

Maybe they're not at the top of the bestsellers list these days, though. :thinking frown:

Apparently, the third most senior Catholic in the Vatican, and the highest ranking Catholic in Australia, has been found guilty of sexual assault. Hooray!

Q: why are some Bible translations so bad?

King James:

And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

Some other translations:

Then Jesus demanded, "What is your name?" And he replied, "My name is Legion, because there are many of us inside this man."
So Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" The man answered, "My name is 'Mob'--there are so many of us!"
Jesus asked, "What is your name?" The man answered, "My name is Lots, because I have 'lots' of evil spirits."

"My name is Legion: for we are many" is perfect, it's an amazing literary line. These other translations botch it so hard.. I don't even know man.

You guys should check out Ezekiel 25:17

The King James translation is, again, best:

And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.

Reads so much more intimidating than:

I will punish them severely and take full revenge on them. They will feel my anger. Then they will know that I am the LORD.

Also I love the God of the Old Testament so much more than the God of the New. A God who shouts "And you shall know that I AM THE LORD" is way cooler than a God who loves us.
