Typically I only watch this football game each year and just for the spectacle and cultural significance of the thing.

"In football the object is for the quarterback, also known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his receivers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line."

Commercials have been pretty lame so far. Halftime isn't doing much for me either. Only one of these things is slightly unexpected.

The commercials were so boring, it was almost like all of the advertisers knew it was going to be a crappy game and terrible halftime show and didn't want to spend the money on ads.

The Game of Thrones ad was good though.

Too many pauses in this sport.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Back in jr. high I think playing pickup games of touch or "light tackle" football was one of the most fun things I remember from those days (along with JED).

To be serious for a second I've watched the superbowl a few times and whilst I'd imagine that american football's a fun sport to play, I just don't see the appeal whatsoever as a spectator sport.

I also think this about most sports.
nope.

To me baseball is pretty much always boring to watch but it's very fun to play. I've noticed, though, that sports can be more interesting to watch the worse they're played. For example, people like high scoring games but if both teams defense are doing their jobs the game should be slower or lower scoring. Racing tends to be more exciting when there are wrecks. Applying this, a boring game like the recent Super Bowl seems to reflect a game that was played fairly well. I'm not actually saying that's the case though. I've never really been much into watching football. I was thinking about giving it a shot and that was literally right before the kneeling controversy.

Hockey is the best anyway, followed by soccer ('"football"')

Yeah, we watched a Nashville Predators game a few years ago. It was fun. We don't typically actually watch World Cup games but my wife could totally get into that especially when her home country is playing.
