This isn't really a showcase, so I'm putting it here - feel free to move it, if you don't think it appropriate...

Anyway: Some friends of mine have built a pretty nifty indie-developer VR game (Rift and Vive) that is really good in my opinion but not really selling much.
Since I know this community likes well-designed levels and great gameplay ideas as well as not being averse to Neon/cyberpunk/80ies style movie references, I thought you guys might like it, too.

It's built from scratch in Unity with models, textures and music created specifically for the game and is a VR rail-shooter/jumper/roomscale workout/full-of-80ies-movie-reference experience that I personally really like.

This is what it looks like:

And here is their official trailer:

Sorry, don't know how to play this video :(

You can find more information on https://thetower2.com/ and download it from https://www.oculus.com/experiences/rift/1754831947938552/ or https://store.steampowered.com/app/1119740/The_Tower_2/ - their soundtrack is also on Bandcamp at https://thenewmeta.bandcamp.com/album/the-tower-2-ost

So, if anyone has a VR headset and finds this interesting, I'd love to hear what you think!

Cheers,
Goofz

Disclosure: I don't earn anything from this, I just really like the game and know the guys who built it pretty well.

Looks pretty cool - and it's always nice to see the Unity engine used more properly than it usually is!

But kidding aside: Actually a lot of the techniques used to build this really reminded me of how we used to do stuff back in the day in JK. The VR headsets have some pretty strong restrictions, so I discussed some of the tricks for visual effects we did back in the day with the modellers. We even played around with faking fog by having several semi-transparent spheres around the player like someone did in some level.

Looks cool. Will it be available on the Oculus Quest?

I'll be honest and say I wasn't enthralled by the trailer. Then again, I've not even tried VR and I'm sure a trailer of a VR game viewed on a regular monitor doesn't really do it justice.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

They are hoping for it and have pitched it to Oculus. I don't think they've heard back so far.

They are friends of mine. I stood around looking the modeller over the shoulder and told them that someone back in the day attached cubes or 3dos or something to the walkplayer to fake fog. Do I misremember?

Yeah, I can understand that. I tried the game itself and really liked it. There are some jumps, and slides and stuff that you really _feel_ in your stomach. I haven't done much VR either, so I guess that's just the normal feeling you get from those games, but that really felt neat.
