This might be old related news but Some think that NASA is colouring the Mars images to a more orange/red hue than reality. At least the calibration sundial's colours don't seem to match up.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Changing the color on images from space probes is nothing new... But I do seem to remember NASA claiming that these pictures were "unmodified." In which case they could be a bunch of liars.

A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

It is not a sundial, it is the ******* high-grain antenna that is being used to send the pictures home. Why would they need to change the hue, they said they wanted the camera to see what we would see if we were on mars, not what we would see if that labdscape was on earth.

No one has ever been able to change post topics... The forum code is too old to support it I think.

You're thinking of the fact that only admins can delete posts now.

No, it's possible for admins to change thread titles. It takes forever for the changes to go into effect, but it can be done.

lol at the end of hte article it says:

In its 18 days on the red planet, the rover's performance has been virtually flawless. JPL scientists were reviewing the early data Thursday to see if they might have missed some predictor of trouble.

As far as NASA being a bunch of liars, there was a case a few years back (when that last probe landed on Mars, Sojourner?) where NASA refused to release all of its pictures for some inexplicable reason. Congress threatened to cut funding and support for NASA unless they forked the images over though, so in the end it worked out. Point is, NASA is very protective of its stuff.

If only we knew it would break down so quickly, maybe we could have used the $400 million dollars on another tax cut or something that is TRULY important to America!

The way I hear the story is, the originals were doctored, and the new ones aren't. Thus, the discrepancy

However, as has been mentioned, doctoring of photos isn't unheard of, and it has good reason. The Hubble photos for example, are often doctored to correct them to what we would see if we were to look at the object in question with a traditional telescope. The human eye doesn't work in the same way that the mars rover's camera does. Mars' atmosphere plays weird tricks on the camera, and it could be that the photos are corrected to show us what we would be seeing. If the photos came in upside down and stretched, would you be mad about them fixing the problem?
