Most of the gameplay is roughly as good as the original UT... The "Onslaught" (What we be talking about here), and the "Assault" (scenario maps) make it better, at least in my opinion...

Yes, they do manage to get it to run quite nicely... Apparently, though, it also seems to benefit from memory more than anything else... My brother is looking for both a video card and an upgrade to his 128MB RAM... he has to set everything to minimal, and still gets only ~8fps, despite a 2Ghz proccessor...


It definitely is nice... And video cards aren't difficult at all to come by... It's just a matter of what you can afford...

10 kills is Frag Monkey with Flak Cannon, not Black Monkey.

And the mantra is great for these things:
Running people over. (Hit crouch to lower the craft to run people over)
Strafe-hitting tanks. You can circle around and shoot them much faster than their turret can rotate.
Sniping power nodes. The bots do this often. Just sit on a hill and snipe. It takes forever to find where you are, and the mantra's weapons do more damage than nearly every infantry-based weapon, due to it's high rate of fire.
Getting from point A to point B, FAST. It's the fastest vehicle, and is hardly detained by terrain. Most of the obsticles it flies right over.

When you hit another vehicle and do damage it'll say, "FENDER BENDER"

I love the Manta and air battles, shooting the missles and watching the fly is really cool and then the other ship just falls outta the sky and you can see the guy falling too.

The vehicles are all great the only I don't like is the stupid AVRIL . But I guess they couldn't stack the vehicles too badly the foot soilders needed something.

My favorite weapons so far are the Mini-gun and the Flak cannon. But this UT2k4 is more of an add-on to UT2k3, isn't it? For some reason, I'm not that terribly impressed......yet.

The demo includes 5 of the 6 onslaught vehichles:

HellBender (Truck): Good speed/armor. get somebody in the side seat to use a shock-rifle-like weapon, and somebody in back for an energy cannon.

Scorpion (ATV): Great speed, but poor armor. The plasma ribons are devastating, and the blades are wicked!

Goliath (Tank): Sllooww, but 800 HP. blasts most things to smithereens with a single shot. Get somebody else to control a pair of miniguns on board.

Manta (Hovercraft): Hyper-fast/maneuverable, but a tad flimsy. Can jump/strafe, and good weaponry. Flatten somebody with a right click for "Pancake!".

Raptor (Jet): Very-fast/maneuverable. Powerful weaponry, and decent armor. Good all-around vehichle, but it flies, making it better.

I guess they had to withold the Leviathan... As well as all three superweapons...

Check again; I didn't. The manual (provided in the download) also lists all the vehichles; I just listed those in the demo, and my assessment of them...

Could someone tell me how I know whether or not the Avril is locked on to something? Whenever I use it and I think it's targeted right, the missle just goes in a straight line.

You gotta right click on a vehicle and hold the lock. Even while the missile is still moving.


This is why the manta is very good - you can often dive out of sight of the AVRIL'er behind the big hills and stuff before the missile hits you. Then you're clear.


So pretty much the AVRIL is super effective against the Raptor, and the Raptor in turn eats the Manta.(auto-missile lock, Mantas can't really return fire.)

The Goliath is also great against the scorpion, the manta, and the Hellbender (to a lesser extent). I think they did a good job atbalancing the vehichles:

Hellbender: Well-rounded. No real strength or weaknesses.

Scorpion: Fairly good against other land vehichles (ribbon), or infantry (blades)

Goliath: Knocks out different vehichles in one direct hit. Weak against anything up close.

Manta: Weak against all other vehichles, but amazing versus nodes/infantry.

Raptor: Great against mantas/other raptors, but not too good against infantry or the scorpion.

I LOVE THE HELLBENDER!!!
I just got done owning it up with this thing! Its a LOT better if you can manage to get one by yourself, pearch yourself so u can see the entire blue base and than click 3(rear turret), charge and kill, Instant hit kill on infantry and can kill all vehicles except tank in like 4 hits. I litterally killed every moving thing in their base for like 10 mins. It was VERY awesome.

Honestly, this is the most fun computer game I've seen since the original UT, possibly even earlier. (there were better games, but they weren't as "fun"). I find it hard to resist playing it at every opportunity that presents itself! (Fortunately, my home computer can't run it, or else I'd have wasted the past week...)
