But wouldn't that blow up the internet, or something like that?

The quote thing - Since forum debates on not real-time discussions, you can't insert your rebuttal in immediately after a statement is made. Unless you have a better idea, quotes are the only way.

anyway... which is really better... a bunch of flame wars isolated to one forum or a bunch of flame wars on the main forum?

One thread every month or so, saying "WARNING RELIGIOUS DISCUSSION" and just post a whole bunch religious topics, and let people go nuts. Then close the thread for being all caps :P

I do, although perhaps it's better if someone else explains it.[/B]</font>

Because the debates end up being so over analytical that posting something stupid is actually a better use of time than posting something pertaining to the debate?

The problem I had with the religion forum was that the topics got so far off topic that it was pointless even trying to bring it back on topic and often these topics would degenerate into two or three people quoting each other and then taking it even moreso off topic. The first few pages of each thread were usually good and fun to participate in but I found myself losing internest or being too lazy to read through the 3 or 4 extra pages that had been posted (Which had steered the debate in a completly different direction).

Is the closure a permenatnt thing?

I miss the old religious debate threads that were fun and interesting. They used to be in this forum.

I agree with Jedi Legend. We had better debates here on the main forum.
It almost works better because if someone's being annoying then there's more people to call them on it.

This means that religious threads belong in the Discussion Forum now. Just a note.

Flame wars? Have you actually been in the religious forum? We debate. Debates are intense. They get out of hand sometimes. I was really getting pissed at Firefox a while back, so I decided to stay out of the forum for a month or so. I came back, and I found that I was much more able to keep my cool. So Firefox and I were having a pretty decent debate without flaming each other (at least it seems that way to me), and the forum gets closed. Apparently, flaming is what keeps the forum alive.

Just for a record, I only felt the need to report flaming *once*. (Don't know if that's relevant or not.)

'Cause they like cheese? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Perhaps to try to divert the debate? Get attention?
Could be a variety of reasons.
