Survey results indicate most Iraqis better off now than before the war
2004-03-16, 6:01 AM #1
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3514504.stm

According to this survey, the majority of Iraqis feel that their lives have improved since before the war. Also, the majority feel that foreign military powers should stay until a new government is in place or security is restored, while only 15% feel they should leave immediately.

Paints quite a different picture than some would want you to see.

While I agree that the lives of the Iraqi people will be bettered once this whole ordeal is completed, I'm still opposed to the reasoning for going. I would've supported Bush had he said, "Dammit, we're going to get rid of that b*stard. He's done nothing but wrong to the world since he forced his way into power, and it's time to make him pay." But instead, we got lied to. So even though it *should* end well, I'll still be voting against Bush in November.

I'm sure the Zionists and Bush's Oil Mafia manipulated the results. The truth is that Iraqis actually loved Saddam, they all hate the US, and all very much want us to leave immediately. I know all this despite having never been to Iraq.
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

They did not love saddam they feared him. There only saying that cause they don't like the UN's new rules. They liked the times when they could loot saddams palaces. Heck they even said. "Thank you bush"

I don't know what you're talking about. Arabs hate America 'cause we're imperialists and we want to control their oil. They didn't hate Saddam. They respected him. I don't know why people complain about him torturing and murdering his people. That's a part of Arab culture.

No, I'm an American who's ashamed at the way my unelected "President" is going around the world and spreading "freedom" to poor third-world countries. If Bush knew anything about Arab culture, he'd know that freedom is a Western ideal and it can't work in Iraq.

A guy in my neighborhood that served in Iraq came home the other day. You can talk to nearly any US soldier that served in Iraq, and they'll tell you they are fighting for a good cause and are willing to lay down their lives to bring freedom to Iraq.

They'll also tell you that from the beginning, most Iraqis have appreciated the US soldiers and what they have been doing.

Sine Nomen, you never cease to amaze me with your deductive skills. I too am ashamed of how our "President-select" unilaterally took his multinational force into Iraq to unseat an extremely popular and nearly unanimously elected leader. I'm disgusted by his lieing to the American people especially when he reduced himself to repeating those that the previous administration (a far more honorable and legitimate one, of course) and the United Nations had been telling us and the world for years before Bush Jr. was appointed by the Supreme Court. It is so sickening that he used 9/11 as a photo opportunity to "read" to those kids. I bet he was just repeating the story as heard through an earpiece. Rove on the other end, of course. Let's not even talk about the economy which was begining to falter before Bush ever showed up. Just the possiblity that he would become President was enough to ruin it.

I'm glad to know that there is someone I see eye to eye with here.

Sine, I always knew you were a traitor. Just like all liberals. Yes, all liberals are Saddam loving terrorists.

Seriously, though:

Come on, Yecti. Don't the ends justify the means? If you agree the end of the war is good than why gripe about technicalities at this point. Besides, Bush didn't lie. He was given faulty intelligence. The difference is intent.

Why wouldn't I be serious? Bush could have acted honorably. He didn't have to continue to proliferate the same lies the UN and politicians like President Clinton and Senator Kerry had been telling us for years. He promissed he would restore honor to the White House.
