I'm pretty sure I'm a quarter Irish... I think the other quarter is English and the other half is Polish. I know I'm 50% polish for certain anyway.

I tend to think of my mother's side of the family as Gentile, but it's 25% Irish, 25% French-Canadian. My father married a Catholic woman.

My grandparents on my mom's side emmigrated from Czeckoslovakia (Slovakia today), so I'm 50% Slovak. As for my father's side, the story goes that the first of the family came from Britain in the mid to late 1600s, so that makes the other 50% of me American. As for being Irish, there is a significant concentration of people who share my last name in County Cork, so I'm not ruling it out.

Swedish counts as Irish, right?
I mean, c'mon, they're close enough...

No, really, being Swedish is rad.

Then what would I be? The only closest relatives that were whole anything where two great-grandfathers and a great-grandmother. I'm certainly not anywhere near half of anything.

There is some kind of possibility of me having a bit of Irish blood in me.

My mother is completely Finnish I believe, her parents are very, well, Finnish. I don't know if they have any other blood to them, but I strongly doubt it. Her father sure drinks like a Finn...

My father, now there's where the Irish just may come in. His mother was Jewish (of what country, though, I don't know), and his father was English. Now, I've had the impression that he was a pure Englishman. Then again, I just found out a couple of years ago that I had a Jewish grandmother, so who knows! I do doubt it, though, quite strongly too, because my father never drinks. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif] (Well I don't see him too often, thank god, but my mother told me this about him never drinking. Even sober, though, he tends to beat up his partners.)

I'm scottish/maltese, so somewhere down the scottish side there must be irish, but I don't consider myself anything irish.

</font>

If you follow the "only came from two" rule, you have to choose which grandparent's genetics takes priority. The old way was to use the paternal parent - in which case I'm half Irish and half Scottish. But why stop there at all? If you're going to be eliminating grandparents from the scenerio, you might as well apply the same rule to yourself as well.

In that case, I'm Irish.

That's very scary, because I'm all that, minus the Dutch, German, and French...
