As for the Google thing, they paid them to take it out. However, once they introduced Kazaa Lite -pay- edition, it was put back on.

The new free, fully-functional Kazaa Lite is Kazaa Lite Resurrection. I mean, why would it be "Resurrection" if the original didn't die to begin with?

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Recently Sharman Networks , the company that owns and runs Kazaa Media Desktop and one of the most popular and widely debated P2P (Person to Person) networks, ran full steam ahead against a hacked version of Kazaa called "Kazaa-Lite ".


Kazaa-Lite , a program that is at heart the same as Kazaa, advertises increased security from anti-P2P groups such as RIAA, clean of Adware and Spyware, and packed with many other features. The problem though is that this program is a pirated program that violates many copyright infringement laws.


So after Sharman Networks contacted every site that featured a download of the software and search engines that linked to those site, it is almost impossible to find a download for this program. The official Kazaa-Lite site now supposedly still offers the download but it requires a paid membership, not to mention what damage was done to the program if it still is "lite".


Also for those who already have the "lite" program:

Supernodes are vital to the operation of a P2P network and so the legitimate version of the program forces users to become supernodes . On the other hand, the "lite" version gives the user the option to become a supernode or not. Most do not, and now without a centralized Ops point for the program to run from, and a lack of supernodes , users will find downloads slower and slower along with shorter connection times. Eventually as the supernodes decrease the network will disappear and along with it Kazaa-lite .

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Speaking with RatFaced, one of the Kazaa Lite forum moderators today and our contact at K-Lite, I have uncovered news that the Kazaa Lite K++ project has been shut down by Sharman Networks on grounds of copyright infringement.

The project, which had been set up to block spy and ad ware within the Kazaa Media Desktop Program has achieved notoriety within the P2p world through its simplistic approach and success in reverse engineering the Kazaa application.

However, the program infringed on the copyright of Sharman Networks, the company that now own and program the Kazaa Media Desktop application, after the purchase of the code and copyright in 2002. The FastTrack (Kazaa) network is financed through advertising systems, which Kazaa Lite K++ does not include, and so was seen as a threat by the owners.

Sharman have threatened legal action, and ordered that the offending content be removed from the official Kazaa Lite sites, including http://www.kazaalite.tk/ which now contains no reference to the existance of the application.

RatFaced said that the decision was “Ironic, that Kazaa is complaining about copyright issues, especially as K-Lite ++ stands for everything that Kazaa CLAIMS to stand for... but fails to deliver.”

We will perhaps never see Kazaa Lite again, but we can hope that users will remain aware of the spyware that is hidden inside the Kazaa application, which is used to finance the creation of the software.

eMule and WinMX offer spyware-free alternatives to Kazaa.

I can't connect, my friends can't connect, people on forums all over can't connect, yet for some reason, 1% of people miraculously can connect. Honestly, tell me and the thousands of others that cannot connect no matter what are imagining things. Tell the people that created Kazaa Lite Resurrection that Kazaa Lite was never shut down to begin with. Tell ZDNet their research on the subject is wrong. Tell Sharman Networks, the creators of Kazaa, that it was never shut down. Please, do so.

Or, you could just accept the fact that for nearly everyone, Kazaa Lite doesn't work, and Kazaa Lite Resurrection has taken its place.
