but the #1 question is...

Is it superior to Deus Ex?

Apples and oranges really. Far Cry's gameplay is so vastly different to Deus Ex I wouldn't even begin to compare the two.

Does it have much of a story SP wise? Is the multiplayer decent? Since I hear the actual game is >>>> the demo, I might take a stab at it. Maybe.

Story is kinda meh, I'm not really one for the "OMG MUTANTS" thing..

Regardless, the AI is actually pretty good. Been flanked many times, etc.

I've uploaded more shots, FarCry0011.jpg - FarCry0027.jpg.. far too many to link individually.

I'll admit to Reactor CTF, Duel Abyss, Duel Turbulent, Duel Dustball, and even the CCCP, but not Sky High! (my first, be kind!) Ok so maybe I will.

I like the story... Those terra-things scared the crap outta me first time one lept 2 stories straight up to attack me.

The intro is really confusing the first time you watch it, thanks to it being all artsy in its direction, but if you watch it again it makes a little more sense.

I think Ubi Soft is having problems with multiplayer. Like Raven shield, you have to register with their website, enter your CD key, and then you can browse servers. The one time it didnt time out verifying my CD key I got a list of about 20 servers, none with any players on them.

Still, hosted a few games myself just to see what it was like. Some of the levels are pretty and the different classes are interesting, although I think lag is going to play a major role in gunfights.

AMD Duron 800Mhz (I think) and a GeForce 2, just ran the FarCry demo.

It looks like trash. I am a blob in blobs, and I shoot other blobs. This rocks.

I'm not sure what you mean. Isn't this the way most games are going? With people expecting more detailed environments, it's going to become a real pain in the butt to handle all of this in a map editor. Flat walls just aren't going to cut it anymore, and if you want a tremendous amount of detail, you're probably better off using a modeling software and importing individual pieces.

Are the bugs fixed? I mean, does Ansiotropic Filtering and AA work now? And how does the game run on Radeons?

Yup, AA/AF work for Radeons. I'm running it on a 256mb 9800 Pro with everything on Very High and goddamn is it gorgeous.

I'm only up to level 5 but I have to say I honestly love this game, it's too much fun.

For example in the level I just played, I was in a buggy approaching this dockbase....floored it right through this warehouse squashing several baddies.....come out the other side and drive into the sea, but before I jump out I shoot a gas tank on a nearby jetty blowing up some more baddies...crates/bodies flying everywhere....then I swim to safety and gun down anyone left. FUN! Ugh, I need to eat...but dammit, don't wanna stop playing.

That bit was awesome [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I did it much the same way as you, except I piffed a grenade in mid air at the remaining guys on the pier.

I love the way Far Cry has implimented vehicles. They're everywhere! Sometimes they give you a vehicle when you only have to run 100 meters or so. That's another great thing about it, though, (with very few exceptions) you dont have to drive if you dont want to. In fact, at some points in the game there is a very strong case for ditching your vehicle and sneaking up through the jungle to flank the ambush the mercinaries have setup on the road ahead.

Those mutants are evil -and- intelligent. They act like raptors. I was distracted with two of them running around far away while three others came from both sides out of nowhere. I wasn't even angry I died because it was so beautiful.

At least you can still tag them with your binoculars [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Quick poll:
What weapons are you currently carrying?

Me:
MP5 (Silence is good against mercs)
Sniper Rifle
Rocket launcher (gotta be prepared for choppers)
Shotgun (Trigen killer. Hard choice between this and the assault rifle, but I feel the shottie has more stopping power)

Gwah. Dry season is over, but when it rains it pours!

Farcry, BF:Vietnam, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tommorrow, IL2: Ace Expansion (lot's of Semicolons), and UT2004 are all out.

And I still haven't even got my hands on Beyond Good & Evil or KotoR. Choices choices.

Keep torturing us poor indecisive souls with more screenshots and tales please.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Too bad the split second someone creates a Jurassic Park logo texture for Far Cry time and space distort causing all copies of Far Cry in the universe to suck horribly.

Os, you might wanna check this out for more infor on editing Far Cry, it's the manual for the editor:

ftp://ftp.ubi.com/uk/farcry/sandbox/FC_Editor_Manual.zip

I've only played around with the editor briefly (as I'm only 1/3rd through the game) but I must say I'm pretty impressed. This isn't some half-assed buggy throw-in, it's the real deal.

You don't have to use 3d Studio Max, though - Wings3D can export to 3ds and obj, and I'm sure there are ways to get those into the Crytek engine. I'm not sure I understand the reluctance to make and use models - how is making a complex beam in wings3d different from putting together a bunch of brushes in Radiant? If anything, modeling has always been easier and more efficient, and I see it as a blessing that developers are getting away from using their homebrewed solutions and turning to the dedicated 3d creation packages for complex stuff.

I guarantee that you can learn Wings quickly and after a bit you won't want to go back to using brushes and clipping planes and rotation inaccuracies that Radiant so nicely forces you to work with.

Mutants = bad. BAD BAD BAD. How can the game go from kickass merc fights to stupidly bad mutant fights, and then back? Its insane. The merc fights are INCREDIBLY AWESOME, and the mutant fights are an exercise in frustration and just general annoyance. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] If there's an expansion to this, I do not want to see ANY mention of a mutant ANYWHERE in the goddamned thing. AT ALL. If anyone even says "mute" I'll just shoot them in the face, just because "mute" is the sound that forms the first part of "mutant".

So in case you're not following: Mutants = crap.

Yeah i read that, which is where i found out about lack of brushes and only having static meshes. *sigh* it seems you need to be proficient in 3d modelling programs as well these days just to make a level

Bumpness.

About 60% through the game now, loving every second and taking my time [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] A lot of people don't like the mutants, but I find them a good change of pace from fighting the mercs. The save point system also grows on you, gives you a goal to make it to the next point alive which can result in some really intense heartpounding battles.
