*Note- That's a joke. If i had to type that every time I wanted to log in, I'd probably die.
I bet you'd see a lot of these, too...

Oh, and I suppose a congrats is due for the name change, and a sympathy for the sickness. Soooooo...

Congratulations :), and sorry to hear you're sick :(.
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

This is my 6th year at uni now (2nd year of my Phd). IIRC you're doing Astrophysics and I'm assuming you'd continue on to do your Phd in that area? Sounds....obscenely difficult.

I don't mind living at home for the moment. It's only a 40 min walk from the uni and I'd rather be putting what little extra money I have away in the bank so that when I do move out, I can stay out instead of crawling back to the folks when I run out of money.

Plus my folks like to go away on weekends and someone has to look after the animals :D

just physics, as of now I have no idea what specialty I'm gonna be looking into. I'm amazed you're managing to save, I'm so bad with money, even without paying rent I'm still constantly at the bottom of my overdraft (and currently in quite a bit of debt to my mum as well).

My mum travels alot with work, so I do get the place to myself quite often, but it's just the travelling that gets me. It's only 45 minutes on the tube (subway to you foreigners!) but at rush hour, I can't stand it!

Saving money isn't too hard. I have two accounts set up. One is an everyday account that I use my EFTPOS card to get to and the other is a term deposit one where I have to physically go into the bank if I need money out of it. But if do that I lose all the interest for that period. So once I've put money in the term deposit, I forget about it.

I only keep a limited amount of money in the other account so that once I've paid the bills there's not a whole lot of money left to play with. It's a good thing I'm antisocial and none of my friends live within 150km or this system probably wouldn't work as well ;)

I dislike travelling too, which is why I prefer to walk to uni. I don't have to put up with idiots everywhere and its free. It only takes an extra 20 mins than if I drive or catch the bus, plus this way I get there later and get to leave earlier.

Good plan, I had a similar thing set up last year, with an ISA (tax-free savings account) but, unsurprisingly, I ran out of money in my current account and had to transfer all the money!

I'm hoping to get a bike this year, it'll probably cost less to buy than to get travelcards for the whole year, and it'll be alot nicer getting to uni that way. Unfortunately, in my current state of fitness, I'd keel over and die before I got halfway. Soo...couple of months at the gym, then hopefully no more rush hour tubes!

Do you not get something like a semester-ticket to use bus/train in the region?

It is included in the regular fee here

I don't know if you've ever used a bike in your life before, but it really doesn't take all that much effort.

Yeah, I can get a student monthly (I'd never get a yearly, I'd be guaranteed to lose it) travelcard, but that's still £50 a month.

Flex, I don't think you quite grasp how unfit I am right now. Cycling would take about an hour and a half, and...well I told my ex about my plan to cycle and he laughed at me.

Well, that's a good enough reason to call him your "ex"...

There's no minimum speed limit for cycling. If it feels hard, just cycle slower. You don't have to be like me, and always cycle as fast as you can (causing grannies near-heart attacks, when you suddenly overtake them).

When I stand up, or sometimes sit up, I come very close to passing out.

Yeah, well.....
Several hours after I eat burritos, people around me start passing out.
