Okay, so here's the story:

I have this friend, Amber, at highschool. We're just friends. Amber has this friend named Robin.
So today after school, Amber comes up to me and says, "Hey Joel, you know my friend Robin?" and I was like, "Yeah." Then she asks, "Well, she kinda likes you. Will you go out with her?" I paused for a sec, then I was like, "Uhm....yeah, uh...tell her I'll think about it." So Amber smiles, says, "Okay," and walks away.
Now, here's the trouble. This Robin girl, is like twice my size. She's quite overweight, and I'm just not attracted to her. But I'm affraid I'll hurt her feelings if I say no. And better yet, I've never been on a freakin date before. Plus I'm affraid it'll make me look bad if I don't go out with a fat girl just cause she's fat.......*sigh* I'm totally confused.

So....what the hell should I say? I really don't want to hurt Robin's feelings, but at the same time, I'm.....god I'm just not attracted to her, like, at all. Sure, I'd like to get to know her, but not in a boyfriend/girlfriend way.

Massassi.....help me!!

My advice to you:

Follow your feelings first. It might hurt her feelings now if you say no, but it will hurt her a lot less now than if you go out with her and she finds out you weren't really interested.

Sometimes the best thing to do is tell people the truth. Just call your friend and say that you thought it over and just aren't interested in going out with her.
2004-09-13, 7:31 PM #3
say no, it will hert her either way, but it will hert worse if you go out with her, and it will be harder on you. it would hert her worse to know that your shalo on top of being cute. (or acting shalo by goin out with someone you dont like just so you wont look bad and make her feel bad)

But hang out with her socially in group situations till you change your mind about her and start liking her, or you dont like her and liave it at that.
Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.

Don't go out with her. You can try being friends with her, but I advise against it; too often have girls who've liked me ended being a bit...too close for comfort (always leaning on me, etc.).

Hmm....I understand your points. I'll kindly tell Robin no.

I judge overly obesce people as people who don't take care of themselves. I consider that a lacking quality. Although, if the girl just has a little extra chunk, psh. She could be a great girl either way, but you can't let ecceptions into your filter, or else you might as well not have a filter. Simply tell her you're not interested, simple as that. Maybe you should get to know her as a friend, and go from there? Heck, even take her on a date. I think that's more of an adult thing to do, is to endure a date with her, and if you hit it off, great, if you don't, well you've got legitimate reason to NOT 'go out' with her, asside from her weight problem.

Dont go out with her out of pity. That's never a good idea. Just tell your friend to tell her she seems nice but that you only see yourself being friends with her. It's the nicest way to say you are not interested, and it's not a complete put down. There's nothing else you can do, and thats the nicest thing you really could say. Hope that helps

Okay, what you want is to buy three 1 kilowatt microwaves. Make holes in the front and back of all three (about 4 inches in diameter) , and put them so their holes are aligned with each other. Wire the microwaves together so they can all be controlled from one panel. Next, you need a coil (copper wire, 14 gauge) the same width as the holes and the same length as the three microwaves put together. Hook the coil to a 15,000 volt pulsed power supply with variable frequency. Then, put some sort of gas injector into one end of the coil. Obtain a small amount of deuterium gas, and feed this into the injector.

Now, power it all up. The microwaves will ionize the deuterium and even initiate a bit of fusion (watch out for neutrons!). The coil will contain the ionized gas and accelerate it linearly. If you get the coil frequency just right, it will travel in excess of 100 meters before dissipating. It creates a really cool glow too.

Voila! Your very own plasma gun.

Now, get 4 or 5 car batteries and put them in series, then attach them to the whole thing (microwaves, pulsed HV circuit, whatever, it doesn't matter that it's DC it just means that half the rectifier is unused). This is mainly to make it more portable. With a bit of cutting and re-wiring, you can cut down on quite a bit of the size of the microwave ovens, and then you can put the batteries in a backpack or something.

Now, pertaining to your problem, take your home-made plasma gun to school. Start shooting. She'll get freaked out enough that she won't want to go out with you! Problem solved! And as a bonus, you get a cool plasma gun as a souvenir!

EDIT: It has come to my attention that most microwaves (the magnetron part, not the control circuitry) use only a half-wave rectifier (just a diode). Therefore, either bypass this or make sure that you have the batteries hooked up right.

NOTE: This is, of course, complete bull****. I made it up because I am bored. But if anybody actually makes a working plasma gun using these instructions (highly unlikely, since the physics is wrong), please tell me.

Woah, I used to know an overweight girl called Robin who had a crush on me... Weird.

Course that was 8-9 years ago now.

If you don't want to go out with her, just say no from the start. It's not as painful as leading someone on.

I think she's an 8 or 9 year old who he's got a crush on, if I read correctly. Oh, and he's fat. [/zing]

exactly what avenger said, dont lead someone on. cuz if you were to go out on a date with her just out of kindness she'll think you like her. so dont go that route. just tell her friend you see her only as a friend and then just back off, the only way to be nice about the whole deal. Cuz if you lead her on it will just hurt her. But I think you have already gotten the point from what everyone here has said, so good stuff

You'd be surprised how many people who are in "good shape" don't do any exercise and don't take care of themselves at all *glares at maeve*, while at the same time, alot of people who are overweight do pay alot of attention to their health, but are obese because of illness, disabilities, high resistance to leptin, or other health problems they were born with. The biggest misconception about obesity is that these people are fat because they're lazy and don't eat well. Although that may be true in some cases, it often isn't. You of all people should respect that.

What Flex said. Just for you Keiran

If the admins deem this inappropriate, take it off. I only attached it because I've seen it on one of the pic threads.

totally tasteless, I know...
I'll blame the lack of sleep again:p

The advice I have is to tell her you'd like to get to know her a little better before you went on a date. Then, if you end up developing stronger feelings for her, do it up.

ahhh...high school...

Obviously if youre not attracted to her there is no point, be her friend, theres no shame in that. Just because somebody likes you doesn't mean you like them the same, fortunately (and sometimes unfortunately if youre on the recieving end) life doesn't work like that.

Call me insensitive, or a *****, but quite frankly you can't trick yourself into thinking a different way than you already do. And you are in High School...who gives a **** what other kids think anyway. It's not like they could handle the situation any better than you :)

I would calmly and nicely tell her no because there is no point in being in a relationship if your not gonna be happy with it.

Are you only not attracted 'cause she's fat?

Is Amber hot?

Chances are the fat chick wouldn't look twice your way, and she's only doing this because Amber would but can't express her true feelings in a more rational manner other than asking her fat friend to go out with you.
