Well, you got me currently beat on RAM, and will soon have me beat on the video card, but I just did my voltage mod to my motherboard and am testing my 3.0C @ 3.6 GHz. I have a feeling it will go higher though. :D

I don't know why people bother bragging about their pc being the best, it's not like they aren't knocked off the top every other month :p

It honestly scares me that some people try to stay ahead of the curve though....that must be hellishly expensive.

Meh, I figured I won't be able to brag for much longer. Sooner or later, someone will get something way better than my system.

For me, it all depends on how soon I can get my hands on the upgrades... Replacing the 512MB with 2GB, an A64 3700+, and a Radeon X800XT. I'd post a pic of my system so far, but it's not much to see (no neon lights, no clear panels, just a opaque black case filled with black components)

If I remember right, the 6800 is the only card that will play U3 at "playable" framerates.

I'm not truly buying what's being said about the Unreal 3 engine. As far as I know, it's written using Direct3D, which the Radeon series specializes in; the GeForce series is for OpenGL. While the 6800 may get better performance for Doom3, I believe that's almost purely due to the fact that Doom3 is very thick OpenGL coding. Once you remove the effect of APIs, the 6800 and X800 are almost identical in performance. As a result, I believe that the X800 would likely be the best home-use card out for the U3 engine, despite the partnership between Epic and NVidia. (As for HL2, I suspect it will run like crap on the 6800, but perfectly on a 9800XT, given the fact that the Source engine was designed specifically for the Radeon Series)

actually it runs great on nvidia cards and ati cards... except for the GFFX series... but those are the skidmark in nvidia's underpants

Sorry buddy, but you're seriously, SERIOUSLY misinformed.

The Unreal 3 engine uses Shader Model 3.0 extensively, and seeing as how the 6800 series is the only series out that has that on there, then it's definitely got the advantage.

Also, HL2 has been added to the list of SM3.0 games, and so will probably run better on 6800s than on X800s.

Not just that, but the X800 and the 6800 are NOT anywhere NEAR identical in performance. The 6800 is actually a small bit better than the X800 on SM3.0 games with AA and AF turned up (which is a first for nVidia to be able to boast that) and is much better with no aa/af.

Also, just because it was 'designed' for the Radeon series doesn't mean it'll run better. Take UT2k3/4 for example. "nVidia - The Way It's Meant to be Played". They both run much better on second-gen ATi cards.

On an ending note, the 6800 gets better performance in: FarCry, Painkiller, Doom 3, Battlefield: Vietnam, Call of Duty (so far)

And will probably get better performance in: Battle for Middle Earth, Half-Life 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and of course, Unreal 3 engine.

Jim--The X800 MAY run the Unreal 3.0 engine game at decent, maybe playable framerates, but it's doubtful. The fact that nVidia always outperforms them in raw FPS, and has just recently surpassed them in AA and AF performance means that, most likely, the X800 will be left in the dust.

I know, tis a sad day for ATi, and they'll make it up with their next line I'm sure, but there was also nothing they could do about it.

I think it's good personally....how ATI and Nvidia keep outdoing each other, one leading one year another leading the next.....it keeps either from getting complacent and, of course, we the consumers win :D

Competition yay!

AMD Athlon 1700+ CPU (1.47 GHz)
640MB Ram
Powercolor ATI Radeon 9600 XT Video Card

Yeah, so there's my mid-range system, being the only thing I could afford at the time. I can't take the CPU any higher, or I would wind up with a bunch of non-working PCI devices (no PCI/AGP locks). Overclocking the video card didn't work too well, either, as it makes the system slower overall.
