Doesn't matter. gothicX's point was not to jump to conclusions. You don't know the whole story, so you shouldn't be making broad generalisations about the cause of anything.

Ruthervain: how are things going? Have you sppken to anyone?
2004-09-19, 3:17 PM #43
Obi, you just need to shut the Hell up. Seriously. That was the most counter-productive post.

To Ruthervain: I can only repeat what people have said. Don't drink while you're on anti-depressants and see a therapist/doctor.

Jesus H C I just read what Obi said.

What a pile of wank.

Lay off the sauce ruthy mate, and find help asap, please. Doctors, friends, it's all good. :)

Ruthy, why aren't you getting on AIM anymore? Forget about Amanda. You knew she wasn't going to care, she's too self-centered for that. Get on AIM sometime man, I'd like to talk to you.

Plus it's fun. Let's see. Just remember that you have some weird chemicals in your head. Ignore them. Unless you can think of a logical reason to bump your self off don't do it. After that, go easy yon the forums for a bit. They can make you depressed. Or, if none of the above works, go join the Marines. Trust me, they will put you straight. My Dad joined the joined the Marines before he got married, and boy did they fix him up. Seriously, you should do it. It will give your life lots and lots of meaning. If you have a goal to like, make it though boot camp, you’ll be suppressed how much better you’ll feel. Of course, to really, truly be happy you’ll need to come to Christ.
Wow.

I don't think that's really important. IMO (and keep in mind I don't really know what I'm talking about, none of us really do) she may have been some sort of catalyst, but anything else could have initaited these reactions. no flames please, I'll edit if I'm way off base.

Obi...no. just no.

and ruthy...please talk to us...your silence is a little frightening condisering the subject
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

Post about it on an internet forum.

Along with what most people have said, you should stay with a friend until this extreme depression fades. It's not good to be alone when depressed.

You should...shoot your computer with a 12-gauge, right now. Then you'll be force to find another life. ;)

Me neither.

Does ruthy have any contact details with anyone else here? AIM, MSN whatever?

Scrub that, I've just found his hotmail address from the member list at whopissedyouoff and sent him an email.

Hope he gets it soon...

Alright, I sent Sami a text asking him to get in contact (he stayed with Aaron over the summer for a couple of days, hopefully still has his details).

Thats good news for sure. I hope he gets some help, from doctors or from friends. I've been in his situation before depression is not a fun thing to go thru. The best thing to do I found was just talk it out with people. Weither it be on the internet, on the phone, or even face to face its not a bad thing or something to be ashamed of people are here to help.

Atleast that is what helped me when I was going thru a real rough time a few months ago.

Is it just me or is yoshi the most down to earth and friendliest person here?
nope.

Best advice ^^ Helped me through rough times, about two years. Me and my two closest buddies (we used to have a band together at the time) every evening after school, we'd get together and have a beer and just chat and mess around, write music, whatever. Just doing stuff. Helped me get out of my rut real nice :)

This is why you should lay off the forums. Some people can't distinguish between humor to help you feel better and serious suggestion as seen in the later part of my post. They assume you're incredibly stupid if they happened to disagree with your religion. So they flame you. How mature.

Anyway, you'll be fine. Most people go through times like these. Try upgrading you're PC and then checking out your 3D Mark score. That will be fun and will probably work better than medication. Then you can get back on the forums and brag about your PC. fun fun fun. Lets see, if it's really bed you might try going to a doctor and ask him if there's some medication you want to try. I don't know if you want to go to a Physiatrist because they are very expensive. Not having money can make you very depressed. I know it would make me depressed. Any way give us a progress report how ‘bout?
2004-09-20, 12:51 PM #67
True getting your mind off it is a good thing at times when there is no one to talk to. But you have to be careful I found that diving into my PC for long periods of time did help in the moment but all the negative feelings just got buried. After a while they piled up to the point that I attempted to take my own life. I'm not saying it will ever get that bad for him, I hope it never does. But generally I found the very healthiest thing you can do is talk about it. Which he has done, by posting a subject here. It doesn't seem like much but it's a start, it shows he wants to get better and he wants to talk about it. Which is very commendable because although I can't speak for everyone who has been thru this I know coming forward and talking to someone about it was one of the hardest things to do during that time.
2004-09-20, 1:04 PM #68
Try installing a water cooling system or doing some cable management in your PC. Your stress levles will go so high, you won't even notice that you're depressed! :p Why don't you tell us why you're depressed. Do you have a reason to be depressed? If not, you really should see the docter and get him to give you something.
2004-09-20, 1:09 PM #69
When I went to the doctor for my depression he told me to avoid high stress situations because frustration can actually amplify depression. He also gave me a formula I don't know if it has any truth to it but it helped me think about it diffrently.

Frustration = Stress at a breaking point.

Anger = Frustration + Fear

Depression = Anger turned inward.

So avoiding high stress could actually take down the depression if only alittle bit. Again I don't know if there is any truth to it but it's worth a look.

1) It isn't that the advice wouldn't help, it's that the man TRIED TAKING HIS OWN LIFE. The main thing here is to keep him alive, none of us want Ruthy gone, not preaching to him about (insert religion). Unless it involves coming back from the dead or something. Then it's a toss-up.

2) STOP. TALKING. ABOUT. COMPUTERS. They are not the answer to everything. They are not all-knowing. They are a tool to get things done, and for enjoyment.

Mad Cow--Don't worry, I'm VERY subversive ;)

Ruthy--please talk to us. :(

Your doctor isn't a little green guy with big harry ears and light saber is he? :p

Sounds kinda like the line where Yoda's talking about fear leading to anger, blah blah blah.

Dj Yoshi, if you're depressed you want humor, right? I'm just kidding about the PC stuff, can't you tell? Study, my boy, the art of refined humor.

When someone is searching for advice and crying out for help it is inmature and very childish to mock advice given to him. Now I'm not saying you are in anyway this, but it is something to think about.

Refined humour, this is not. This is neither the time nor the place to be cracking awful jokes, be they well meaning or not, or even if they're good or not.

And yeah, maeve and sami, cheers and well done!

According to someone earlier in the thread, they talked to a friend of his and he is okay. Hopefully his condition will stay that way. But this silence is very disturbing I agree.

Well, I know a friend who is on anti-depressants, and no alchohol, and still cuts herself. But that isnt relevant.

If you are thinking about suicide/hurting yourself, go see a doctor ASAP!!! Please don't hurt yourself any more!!! I and every body else does not want to see you hurt. Please, for the sake of us, go to a doctor.

I've never understood self destruction. i figure if i'm going to hurt my self i'd rather do it haveing fun. go bungee jumping, skydiveing ect. When i'm depressed i go sk8bording but i guess it borders on self destruction at times. Try not to hurt your self on porpouse . LIfe is to good to throw away.
