and to clear things up... here is my opinion on greedo shooting first...

that was a stupid change...
1. it looked like a bad film jerk because that's what it was
2. that scene was part of han's entire character... if you come to kill him and take his ship he will kill you before you get a chance to even fire a single shot... he is after all... basically a space pirate

At least they didn't replace Han's blaster pistol with a walkie talkie.

Only because Lucas knew if he did that, the fans would quite literally kill him, draw and quarter him, burn him, stomp his ashes, feed him to a hungry rhino, nuke the rhino, shoot the remains into the sun, and then go back in time and do it all over again for fun.

Then why didn't they do it to Spielberg? Because E.T. already sucked?

Han and Greedo shoot at the same time.

Ian McDiarmid is, and always will be, the Emperor.

Hayden Christiansen plays Anakin Skywalker, not Darth Vader, in RotJ.

The Trilogy has NEVER, EVER looked this perfect. To settle for the literally dull VHS versions is to deny the films you all hold close a chance to look their best.

I have seen the DVD's, all of them. They are good, and well worth the 49.99. Lucas could have easily demanded 79.99, and it would have been worth it.

1.) E.T. is one of the greatest films ever made
2.) The walkie talkie thing was a good idea IMO, he didn't see the need for guns in his film so he removed them, it was hardly noticeable and it didn't take away ANYTHING from the film....although it is odd that he removed guns to make the film more family oriented but he left in the phrase 'penisbreath!'

For those who have faced hardship in childhood because of Lucas: please get a life based on more important things. I don't know, uh, these could be family, friends, wives? Go ahead!

I am still getting the SW OT DVDs because the trilogy is too awesome.

Never going to buy it.

My cousin summarizes my thoughts pretty well...
"im just bitter that the new star wars on dvd is ruined, they took the old guy that was anakin out and replaced him with that taudry ********** brat that is supposed to be anikan, whatever his **** name is - you know rue pauls albino son. I feel sry for all who watch it and don't realize that Lucas is so retarded that he can't build a coherent story that is fluid enough to coincide with the sequals and prequals and cheapquals that are all part of his mass sell out to non-sci fi fans becuase they pay out more. so much so that he releases the same movie 3 times in 2 decades and makes changes to fit his story and sorry casting (post ROTJ) each time. I hereby ban all his visual fecies from filtering its toxic waves via the movie screen to my already tainted eyes. a pox on him and his gerbals!"

Am I getting deja vu? Didn't I just buy these same movies several times already? Oh wait, these aren't the same movies... they're much worse. Is there a disease that makes you exponentially retarded as you get older? If there is, Lucas has it. I wish he would have just made 4-6 and left it alone. Instead I have to wade through an unholy amount of hype just for mediocracy (and I'm being generous). As far as I'm concerned, the last Star Wars film was released in 1983.

The End.

Okay. I bought the DVD's. I do enjoy's me some Star Wars. And while I'm not losing any sleep over Lucas messing with the classic films, I must agree that it sucks.

I'm a huge fan of the Star Wars movies, and while the story does make up a large part of my obsession, it's just that: one part. There's something very charming about watching these movies made 20, 30 years ago, something only (most of) our late-teens/early-twenties age group can appreciate. The special effects, the puppets, the props..that would, by today's standards, be considered totally cheesy, are just another large part of why I enjoy watching Star Wars. I love not-caring if there's a big brown blob under Luke's speeder, or if there are black lines around the Rancor. To me, at least, stuff like that is part of what makes them special, and classic.

The kids today...they don't understand. Most of them likely can't even take the original Star Wars seriously anymore, it seems so "bad." But what about us, and say....silent movies? No doubt the directors back then would have enjoyed having sound and dialogue in their films instead of reading, but they couldn't; they did the best with what they could, and made some of the best movies that have ever been made (City Lights, Nosferatu...to name just a few. [edit-And of course, Metropolis, which George Lucas drew from so much for Star Wars]) And yet, there's no big rush to go out and take these movies and dub in some dialogue, add colour, and throw some dewbacks in the background.

I don't know...it's very hard to explain, I suppose, and either you get it or you don't. These new versions on DVD, they're cool...they look great and stuff, they tie the old trilogy in with the new trilogy better, yeah. But...I don't know. It just doesn't feel like STAR WARS anymore.

I'm rambling.

Star Wars is and always has been a special effects showcase with a b-movie plot. It was just luck that the originals were actually any good. So just watch the pretty explosions, enjoy the vwum vwum of the lightsabers and lose any conception that the original releases were somehow sacred.

Why would you want to stick with your original drafts when you want to present something that you like better? Think about it this way: Every kid who's had LEGOs before would build one single awesome thing, and build on it as they got more pieces and got better at solving the problems. Some of their friends will say they liked the first one better. Some would like the changes. Some would like that they finally made it like they intended. And in any case, the child would tell you they weren't satisfied with the first version. That's certainly what I remember from my childhood with my friends. Why can't Lucas do the same? These really are minor complaints here. He could have redone entire scenes using CG. He could have digitally redone Anakin's face when he is unmasked to look closer to Hayden. But he didn't.

Well...I mean, like I say, you either get it or you don't.

People either appreciate the classics for what they are, or they respect Lucas' creative decisions involving his own works. And as this thread shows, it's apparently pretty hard to do both. But neither is wrong, because that's the nature of opinions. Both are justified, in their own way.

(...So until next time; take care of yourself, and each other.)

Hayden Christenson in the old trilogy? No. Not happening.

Captain Picard: "The line must be drawn...HERE!"

The other changes, while annoying I can possibly stomach. The Han blaster thing was monstrously annoying because the scene just looks whacked out now. That flat cgi Jaba insertion was pretty damn poor as well...but still acceptable because it was a large inconsistency. But swapping in new actors? Especially no-talent bloated turd hacks from the defiled new series. That twit probably was in diapers when that movie came out. No.

What's next? Erasing Old Ben and digitally inserting Ewan Mcgregor in a grey wig? Redoing the Yoda scene with the new CGI yoda?
