What platform are you getting Battlefront for?

Same thing with Doom3? I own the freaking game, and my opinion still stands on that it looks horrible. (Those new shots are better, but still not that impressive)

If I thought Doom 3 looked good, I would have said it. I admited I was wrong about Sky Captain sucking (it actually was damn good), but the reason I won't admit Doom 3 looks good...is because it doesn't look good. As high poly as everyone claims the models are, they LOOK low poly, and 54.99 is retarted to pay for a game with low replay value, and crappy multiplayer. Plus it's boring and predictable, I didn't even jump once, when in FarCry and System Shock 2 I was scared crapless. Pitch black doesn't make a game scary, good timing does.

3 nice shots there

Yeah, those are pretty nice shots. However, the guy has a powerhorse of a machine. I'd be more content to see shots from a more or less mid-line machine, as that'll give me a slightly better idea how how it'll look on my setup.

Reguardless, my impressions of the game just jumped a bit.

The game isn't meant to look spectacular.
Moo.

Hey, Jedi Knight's graphics was a pile of steaming crap. Almost as bad as Quake 1's graphics. However, you don't exactly see many fans of JK who got into the game because of graphics, right?

Quake 1 looks amazing...now. With mods. But still.

SAJN just isn't allowed to have an opinion. He's the only one I've ever met that thinks Doom 3 looks bad, or at least the only one stupid enough to voice that opinion like it was fact.

And SAJN--what Jim said. STARING AT A WALL WILL MAKE ANY GAME LOOK BAD, KTHX

Look again, you've met another person who thinks it looks bad. However, that isn't my sole reason for disliking the game, nor do I think the ENTIRE game looks bad.

Specific things, namely people and walls, just downright look wrong to me. Nothing was downright bad, just completely unrealistic. The walls? It's set in the future, so what the hell do I know about what materials they could be using. But still... something about it has always felt wrong. The people are obvious. They never looked right. Not to me.

So, there are a few key places where I dislike it's appearance. On the other hand, there are an equal number of places I think it looks quite good.

Like I said though, that isn't my sole reason for not liking it.

The entire game is essentially pitch black. This means that without modding, you have to pull out a freaking flashlight all the time to see. I HATE games/levels that make me do that with a passion. It just annoys me. If you like it, fine, I don't.

Then there is the plot. This is more or less a "meh" point to me. It's alright, but nothing that would make me rush out and buy it. I thought it was somewhat unimaginative.

Finally, the gameplay. If you like running around doing nothing but killing things, good for you. I don't. I grew out of my enjoyment for games like that a couple of years ago. It just doesn't hold any entertainment for me. Now I need something else. I need some plot to back what's going on. An objective to work towards other than to keep my *** alive and more or less finish the level.

I don't hate the game, I just don't like it. Not likeing it and hating it are two entirely different things. And as you've read... if you read... it isn't just about the graphics either.

Agreed. I just got Doom3. It is basically an average FPS in a really sexy-looking body.

Doom 3 was never meant to reinvent the FPS, people need to realize this.

And I am sick of people saying the game is too dark. For crying out loud, its a horror game. It enhances the mood. If the game were fully lit, hell it would not be half as scary.

Quoted for supreme truth.

The thing I hate is how people think the Doom 3 engine is limited--they made the engine far superior to what the game is, they just didn't include 3/4ths the stuff because Doom 3 doesn't need that extra baggage. Including the Physics engine.

For people who think Doom 3 is too dark, you really should read this article, which pretty much sums up my feelings on the subject:

http://www.idlethumbs.net/display.php?id=43

The first paragraph pretty much hits the nail on the head:

Quote:
Doom 3 came out and, as predicted, it was very dark and very scary. For some reason, even after four years of screenshots depicting nothing but dark and scary things, the hardcore gaming populous was shocked, even pissed off, by the darkness and scariness of their recently purchased brand new copies of the game.

But... back on subject... Battlefront by no stretch of the imagination has bad graphics. I'll admit, the first released screens looked like crap, but judging by the most recent ones, it's come quite a long way.
I bet you think that's funny, don't you.

I personally felt Doom 3 wasn't dark enough....navigating by torch light was creepy :D

I realize that, however I still don't see that as any excuse as to why they couldn't have come up with a slightly more imaginative plot at the very least.

The fact that it's a horror game means nothing to me. It's dark. It's annoyingly dark to me. Now if I have to pull out a damned flash light every 2 minutes just to make sure I'm not walking into walls, the game quickly looses the aura of horror and gains the aura of annoying crap to me.

Dark is FINE. I have NOTHING against dark, but the way they implemented that is stupid to me. You can add SOME light, and still have it dark, and still have it just as scary and creepy. See, if it's dark, but there's enough light to at least make sure I don't run into things and I know where I'm going, I'm fine with that. I see no reason why they couldn't have done that and made it so you have to use the flash light to see more specific things.

I play Doom 3 for horror and killer graphics. And I never played any other game with that kind of graphics. When that "new pinky monster" eats a zombie, it looks like real flesh. The horror effects are superb. Everybody that uses this mod where you can have a flashlight + weapon destroys the meaning of Doom.
And that graphic thing with Quake 1 - it's ignorant to say it looks better than Doom3, but I take that as a joke.

But Battlefront isn't really for graphics, is it? I mean, it will probably look like Battlefront ingame. And I like those graphics. And they run on my computer.

Just play doom3 in a closed room, completely dark, noone nearby. :)

Who cares about the story of the film "alien"? It's still my favourite horror movie :)
