Would you go to war?
2004-09-26, 1:31 PM #1
It's a question that's becoming all too common these days.

I would.
2004-09-26, 1:35 PM #2
nope, i would just refuse, and theres never been a draft lately in britain anyways, so im happy
nope.
2004-09-26, 1:37 PM #3
Damn that's right, I keep thinking everybody at Massassi lives in the US. :o
2004-09-26, 1:43 PM #4

2004-09-26, 1:46 PM #6
What? No. Being drafted means you are forced to fight. You have no choice. I would personally not WANT to fight, but I guess they'd make me. It is a draft...
DO NOT WANT.

Your other option is to be arrested. And I'd gladly choose that.

I have far more respect for the conscientious objectors that refused to fight in the Vietnam invasion than those veterans that did.

Go to war, hoorah.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
2004-09-26, 1:54 PM #9
I wouldn't want to fight on the front line, but I wouldn't mind helping the country in any other, less physical/violent way.

Depends on the war.

Sure.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Probably not, no. But perhaps, if it was a direct threat.

No, but I'd do it anyways. If my country really NEEDED me, I see it as--I live here, they take care of me, so I help them out in their times of need.

Yes.
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.

I don't live in the USA, and I've already been through a draft and training, willingly I might add, and if our country was directly attacked, I'd surely defend it.

It would depend on the war for me.. .if it was iraq.. no way i'd go. I haven't agreed with the war since it began, theres no way i'm fighting in it.

I was planning to join the military for a while, but I decided it just isn't for me. But if my country needed me, I'd be more than willing to fight.

Yep. I would not want to join any of the current stuff the US is involved in, but another war could have different circumstances.

It's a little ironic to read your last post followed by the quotes in your signature.

Depends on the issue, I guess. Most likely, I'd not want to.

Although if I had the training, I wouldn't mind bombing something. Weee! Explosions!!!

If nothing else, I could claim I have a mental disability.

There have been wars that I would help with, but with almost all of them, no I wouldn't.

Wookie, doing what's right != what your country tells you to do. It's quite possible that your country could be wrong in fighting any particular war. Nations that start the wars are usually wrong (morally, ethically, etc.). I would fight if my country was actually in danger, such as in WW2, but the current war: no. Vietnam: no. Also, any war in which there are many nations involved (e.g. a world war), I would fight for. Such as WWI, I would have probably fought with the allies.

Not enough options in the poll.

I'd fight, but only if it was a war I agreed with and was on scale big enough where every man was needed, ie. WW2. Vietnam style mess? Pass.

That's kind of messed up. Most had no choice. Dislike the policy or the brass, but the regular GI Joe, that's not right. You can be a conscientious objector and still serve. You don't have to be out there killing people.

As for me, I would if I had to, but I'm not running to volunteer myself at the moment.

I'll be quite honest when I say this. I'm a panzy. I rather be damned than join the military. I'm quite a weak little guy so I'd most break like a toothpick on my first day of training. However, if I get drafted, I won't try to run away. I may be a wuss, but I do have a sense of honor.

It all depends on the war. For instance, who are we fighting and why are we fighting?

I most likely would not want to fight. I don't exactly want to be shot or any of that other @#$% that can happen.

Now if only total international peace existed, we wouldn't need these stupid wars -- but let's face reality, it's not gonna happen is it? :(

Besides, it'd be more effort to whip me into good enough shape for the military than it's worth.

I typoed. I didn't put in those two important letters that provide direction to the whole statement. Editted, and sorry for the mistake.

No.

Only thing that would make me go would be if I wasnt conscientious objector to the war in question, and my country was directly under threat.

there are way too many variables to just say "yes" or "no"
back home... the "revolution" to overthrow the white-dominant government may have had good intentions but i wouldn't have wanted to fight on either side...
and there were a lot of people on the white side who didn't want to be there but had no choice (see also Mukiwa by Peter Godwin from your local library)

yeah... anyway.
it really would depend.

also i have a problem of being a US citizen but not considering the states my home... i'd probably fight a war in Zimbabwe to protect the people and the land but i don't have the "stunning patriotism" that most americans seem to have.
