Unreal 3...again. (56kers can die...HUGE IMAGES)

Unreal 3 engine still looks better :/ The shots that you just posted, don't look like anything special at all :| They look pretty simple.
Think while it's still legal.

Best graphics I have ever seen...
2004-10-02, 11:57 AM #43
uh yoshi you act as if unreal 3 engine is simply graphical processing... last time i checked the unreal warfare engine.... uhh it does everything that a game engine does and should do and it does it WELL... better then doom 3. Doom 3 even if it had cheaper graphics for more people in MP... would it be fun?? Unreal Warfare off the top of my head powers well Unreal Tournament 2004 (runs like a dream on the most modest systems too), America's Army, Deus Ex 2, Rainbow Six 3, Splinter Cell 1&2 and others... Point is that its always done a great job on netcode and physics and I think itll be way better then doom 3's cheap half assed attempt at everything else BUT graphics.

OMG awesome . . .

and it will run on an average computer when I become a senior citizen, too old and senile.

I'm with whoever said the terrain looks crappy. The models are great, but the terrain sucks. It has that horrible multi-textured alpha blending thing going on wich looks awful. The least they could do is change the geometry to reflect the change in texture, but noo.. you have some rock texture thats as round as the rest of the hill there. It looks awful.

Again, like I said, the models are great. Trees, monsters, etc.

Terrain = Sweet

There are two UT2004 shots in there for terrain, i think you guys are getting confused... the only terrain shot for U3 is the one im posting and i don't think it sucks at all...
2004-10-02, 1:15 PM #47
I'd have to agree with ehat everyone is saying about the terrain. The models are bloody amazing, but the terrain, while it looks awesome, could most certainly be many times better. If they can put that amount of detail into a monster, what's to stop them from putting it into the environment? Terrain needs some work.

Some people are also forgetting we won't see an Unreal 3 powered game till what, 2006 I think it was? More Unreal powered games, but not this one.

Well, I don't know about terrain, but the E3 demo was, just amazing. Starting with a 200,000,000 poly mesh to turn into a 1,000,000 poly scene, with the amazing lighting U3 has. And it's far more than just graphics. The physics engine has largely been built, and is also quite nice. If you really want just a sample of the power of this thing, check out the E3 engine demonstration. If nothing else I know they got it on Fileplanet. This engine will just be amazing. And for those of you who don't think it'll run for any normal thing... well, this tends to be a priority of Epic. They want as many people as possible to be able to run it. One of the reasons they included an optimized software renderer into UT2004. I've heard of a few good game companies already saying they'd use the U3 engine. But, anyways. It'll most likely run decently well on midrange computers. As was said before, most of the models are actually relatively low poly. They use a form of difference mapping, virtual displacement, and some other tricks to make a few polies appear to be far greater. A wall of maybe 100 polies made to look like it's got a few thousand, for instance. And what generally takes up the rendering time is polies. So this probably will run decently on an average computer (it probably will require at least a 16 mb 3d card, but I can't imagine that Epic would require more out of a computer, except if you want maximum quality)

It's not Unreal 3 or even Unreal 3 Engine.

It's Unreal Engine 3. Get it right.

Erm, no. The system requirements will be MUCH higher then that. Minimum will be Doom 3's recomended requirements if not higher since this won't be available for up to 2+ years.

Glad we 're here spitting out uniformed facts and what-not.
2004-10-03, 7:56 AM #53
Oh yes, the minimum requirements will most definitely be close to UT2k4's, despite the fact that they had to wait for the 6800 to actually be able to play this game.

Snoop--UT, good netcoding...I'm missing something here. I get horrible lag even on 50 ping servers, and when it gets to a hundred, it's nigh unbearable. Besides that, Unreal Engine 3 won't be using the Unreal Warfare engine for everything else, so why are you defending it? It's a brand new engine.

Not to mention, Doom 3 does everything it needs to and more.

But enough of that, tofu--any games slated for that engine?

But Yoshi - UT's netcode is so good that on a good server with a highspeed connection, you ping around 10-20 ms...
2004-10-03, 8:07 AM #55
So is HL and its mods. And BF. And...oh...wait...ANY netcode is good on a server w/ high speed connection. It's what happens when you get mid-to low-speed connections that makes the difference.

The rocks are bumpy. They don't blend with the rest of the terrain, look at the bottom of the hill. They look REAL.

The terrain editor looks nice, reminds me of Generals', easy and powerful.

Unreal Engine 3 is a complete game development framework for next-generation consoles and DirectX9-equipped PC's

Does this mean the end of Linux compatibility?

Games are becoming more and more demanding, and slower comps can't run em. i remember back when new games could work on almost every comp. Now it's all "omq u bught teh new compooter, and we maek a gamee taht itt cannzt ron"

screw that. i am not looking foreward to this game. the gameplay will probably be crap due to lag and HUGE loading times.

Other than that, I pooped my pants when I saw that

I am sure we wont see any games based off this engine until sometime in 06. By then I am sure a modern computer could keep up.

Or late 05... I don't know

Well, not technically....but it's likely something we should add to the rules page as anything longer than 4 or so lines is a bit of an eye sore.

Let's hope not. Sometimes people use the phrase "directx 9" as more of a standard for the feature set of that line of graphics cards.

Nobody really asked you.

Yoshi, I was not defending UW i was simply stating it is a good all around well built game engine and I highly suspect U3 will be too, more so better then Doom 3, that is all I was saying... and you people all complaining about the specs... theres no miracle for your 600mhz celerons and geforce 2's to run new games when they simply do not support the technology that your 1999 glory day computers run on.
2004-10-03, 10:21 PM #80
I have to agree with the above statement on computer specs.

Unless you're really THAT poor, it won't cost you an arm and a leg to update your hardware. You just have to do a bit of research and make sure that what your getting is for the lowest price.
