Christopher Reeve has died tonight. It was first announced on Drudge Report. Fox News has now confirmed it as has MSNBC
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

I remember how Kerry said he's been hoping to walk again. It looks like he never got the chance :(

Wow. How many more celebs are going to die this month!? And you all know my thoughts on him--hell you've seen the pic enough. It's sad that he died, but I didn't consider him to be a very good human being. Just me, though.

One good thing though...is he did sort of get to walk. I watched a special awhile back (earlier this year I think?) and it showed some of his progress along the road. They had been doing exercises in a water tank, and one day he was able to move his legs and walk/shuffle across a few feet in the tank.

I dunno if it may seem kinda sappy but..there was a line from one of my favorite episodes of Superman: TAS that Superman says. "In the end the world didn't need a Super-man, just a brave one."
"We came, we saw, we conquered, we...woke up!"

heard it on the radio while I was at work :(

Not too surprising though. How much exercise can you possibly get when you're paralyzed in a wheelchair? On the bright side, he did manage to survive 9 years after his injury, you could say he was lucky for that.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

I'm going to take a guess and say that maybe it's because the widespread idea that he didn't give a **** about anyone until he was crippled.

That said, I never met him so....:( :( :(

I saw the story this morning. When I read it they spoke of Reeves, then they started talking about stem cell research and the upcoming election. Is nothing sacred? Why can't we observe the memory of somone like Chris w/o having some friggin' petty political battles tacked to it?

anyhow, RIP superman:( :( :(

It's sad to see him go. A lot of famous people have died recently... Ronald Reagan, Rodney Dangerfield, Janet Leigh, Spaulding Gray earlier this year... ugh. Depressing.

Anyways, I think Christopher Reeve would WANT his death to spark a political discussion on stem cell research. He was its poster boy and now he's died before he could take advantage of the results... that sends a pretty powerful message to me.

The whole thing about Reeve not caring for the paralyzed until his accident is just such utter crap. No matter what you think, he's done alot for the disabled, and the fact that he didn't do anything before doesn't matter. How many charitable organizations were founded before something personally affected the benefactor? Offhand, I'd say a minority. The money he's given and raised will help thousands of people, and the fact that he did it with self interest at heart doesn't change that. He was a generous man, and the past nine years have seen a lot of advancement in that area of research. He put a familar face on the campaign, and for the work he's done, he has earned our respect.

I find it weird, I read it on MSN first, then CNN then MSNBC and Fox News. They all used the exact same article with very minor differences.

And yeah, it is sad he died so soon.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Gregory Peck donated a TON of money to the american cancer society, and even went as far as to become the president. He never had cancer.

As far as Reeve goes, first things first. He contributed a lot of money to charaties before he was paralyzed, but none of them were for paralyzed people. After his paralysis, he stopped donating money to all other organizations, and focused solely on his paralysis foundation. This, my friends, is why I, and I assume, Yoshi do not care for Mr. Reeve.

And also, people die every day. Just like I didn't care when Ray Charles died, just like I didn't care when Ronald Reagan died, and just like I didn't care when Rodney Dangerfield died, I do not care that Christopher Reeve died.

People die. It's a part of life so to speak. Get over it. It's not like he was murdered. Maybe if he hadn't been prancing around on his multi million dollar thoughrobread horse beating the hell out of it with a stick, he'd still be alive today. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an animal activist or anything, but when you've got this animal, and if that animal gets a broken leg or what-have-you, then you have the vet shoot it. Call it poetic justice for the horses, or call me an *******, I don't really care. But the fact is the man is dead, and people die every day. People take death way too seriously. People are too broken up by people dying.

Why is it they always say "Oh I bet this is the way he would have wanted to go." Yeah, ok, then why didn't he call you up and get you to off him like that, if he wanted to die so badly. People make excuses for why death doesn't seem too bad, because in reality people are WAY too terrified of death. I've got a phrase that I've been quoting for a good while now.

"The only people that fear death are those that regret how they have lived."

So maybe you should decide to live your life a little better, and take death a little less seriously. Because in all honesty, it's going to happen. Sooner or later. And if you worry about it constantly it's probably going to happen sooner.

And to be perfectly honest, I don't know why anyone cares when a celebrity dies. You didn't KNOW him. You didn't know the guy named jack in Wyoming that died today. I don't know a guy named Jack in Wyoming either. But I'm sure there is one. And he probably died today. But you don't know and you don't care. People that mourn over natural celebrity deaths sicken me.

We're not taking a day off to commemerate him, watching all the Superman movies. We're not crying. We're not setting up a candlelight vigil, praying that it isn't true, hoping that Superman can turn back the planet. We're taking one minute to commemmerate a man who helped people with the same problem as him, it's his money, who are you to criticize how he gives it out?

Taking death too seriously...

I'm totally with EasyCheese on this one. I agree, Bill, that people die all the time and we never even realize or care, but that doesn't mean we have to give that same response to everyone. Christopher Reeve may not deserve everything that he got, but the fact of the matter is, reagrdless of his motives, he helped a lot of people and made many lives just that much easier. Beyond thay, he's dead. I don't see what's wrong with taking a moment to remember the man for what he did, not for what his motives were. As EasyCheese put it, we're not putting our lives on hold or declaring it a national day of mourning - we're just taking a moment to remember the good deeds of a man who contributed a lot to people whom he didn't even have to help. He had more than enough money to just sit back in his big house on his big estate, but no, he decided that despite his disability, he wasn't going to give up on everyone else, and that is why I think Christopher should be respected for what he did.

How much do you wanna bet that Comedy Central never has the balls to show the South Park episode with Christopher Reeve in it ever again?
