How much Mountain Dew would kill you?
2004-10-12, 7:17 PM #41
Just curious, but how many cans would it be to a 20 oz bottle? I think a can is like 8 oz, right?

Hmph. 7 stone = 98 pounds... You are small... What is this "average" you're reffering to? If it's adult male height, then you're 5'8 tall, and have a BMI of 15, which is very underweight... In fact, dangerously scrawny. I presume that's not what your "average" that you're reffering to.

I would have to presume that, IIRC, Boco is what... 14? Then he's actually more than a little short, and below 5 feet. Otherwise, I think he made in error in checking his weight...

Anyway, my statistics:
  • Height: 6'2" (~2m)
  • Current Weight: 180Lbs (~81kg)
  • BMI: 23 (dead-center normal)
  • # of cans of 'Dew needed to kill me: ~223
  • How often I drink Mountain Dew: Never. Last time was over 3 years ago, and I was deathly thirsty.

Pretty sure they're calculating the caffeine level. So probably from a caffeine overdose. But I think it's possible to die from too much fluid in your body, but don't hold me to that one.

Since I know this stuff:

Caffeine in a 12 oz Mt. Dew: 55 mg
L.D. 50 of Caffeine: 4-5 grams

...if anyone else wants to do the math to see if that's what they're calculating, have fun.

Sadly, mountain dew dosen't have caffiene.

At least the can didn't say so. It didn't have it listed. Post a picture of it listed, and I will believe you.

Like the link says... MD acts like a perscription transquilizer. Which explains why I always feel tired (considering I drink it 2 liters at a time).

Not to mention it would be dumb of them to issue caffeine-free Mountain Dew if it already didn't have any.

SavageX378, that happens to be the nerdiest picture I've seen all week, and I've been reading a lot of webcomics!

However, I don't think it was as bad as my most recent trip into a local 7-11... All of the "medium" coffe cups eaither had "Bush" or "Kerry" on them, and all the Slurpee cups had promotional art for Halo 2.

173 cans..that's $56 worth of Mt. Dew, at the current price of $3.89/12..

Actually, it could be quite proffitable; many people are stupid enough, and few actually bother to read the ingredients list. People trying to avoid caffine might be more tempted by having the "cafine free!" message thrown at them, and one could still leave out the "caffine free" message on some of them, as some people also have an aversion to anything that's not the "normal" kind. (A better idea would be to say "naturally caffine free", as unnatural as soft drinks are)

Also, am I the only one that holds the opinion that "caffine" should be added to the "nutrition facts" panel on soft drinks?

Caffeine is not something your body requires to function nor does it hold any nutritional value. They couldn't put percentage of your daily intake, as your daily intake should ideally be none at all.

... No caffeine in Dew? The more and more I hear of this Canadia the more I come to the conclusion it sucks... What are they going to do next? Make Caffeine Free Redbull? (I pity anybody who would drink that crap solely for the taste)..
