New car (post yours)
2004-10-13, 4:00 PM #1
I finally bought a new car (I've been looking for some time, some of you may remember some of the pictures I've posted of past oppurtunities). It's a 1998 Toyota Corolla CE. See the pictures below, and then post a picture of your car, and any plans you have to upgrade things in it or upgrades you've already done (if you're into that sort of thing).

[btw, sorry the images are a bit blurry... I used my camera phone]

Plan on putting a grill...and a badass sound system. Probably two 10's in the back with a box.

I want a car that looks something like this. It is by far the most respectable car mod I've ever seen.

Mine has custom mods, too. There's a big dent near the back on the left.

GO THE COROLLA! Good old reliable cars that run forever. I bought a 1988 Corolla AE82 Hatch (with a 4AGE Engine) off a friend. He had it for 160,000 kms, and now I've driven it for nearly 20,000 kms, and between us it has NEVER BROKEN DOWN!

Lightstaff - I'm not very familiar with american cars, but I've never seen the seatbelt attached to the car door like that. Is that common?
2004-10-13, 8:48 PM #14
It's somewhat common, although not when it's attached to the window. I've never seen that before.

Also, Lightstaff, I feel the need to mention again how FUGLY your interior is, and how it reminds me of a Famicom.
2004-10-13, 8:50 PM #15
im not even really sure, ive actually never really payed attention to it :p

edit: what exactly is it that you find wrong with my interior? hows it 'fugly' ? so far you're like the only one that doesnt like it

btw its not attached to the actual window..its attached to the frame around it
2004-10-13, 9:08 PM #16
Not sure I like that idea... What happens if a door flies off during a crash?

lol i know.. Ive never thought about those belts at all until Chuckles asked.. now i keep thinkin.. how strong is that door frame hows it gonna stop the force of my body if were to crash, or whats to stop it from ripping out of the door

/e buys a new car

I also think it is ugly. Infact, it is the ugliest interior I've ever seen. It is a prime example of ****ty mods people of our age group love to do.

Although the interior job is pretty nice, it just doesn't look good overall when you consider what kind of car it's on. Cavalier's/Sunbird's, whatever it is, are good cars as far as reliability goes. But for souping it up, they look just crap. They're not a nice car, and it looks hilarious when people attempt to soup them up.

Acura Integra - One of the Sexiest car's souped up. I'd have sex with it, seriously.

For the car Temperamental posted:

I really hate that front bumper. It serves no real purpose except to get scratched every time you hit a bump. And what's the purpose of those things on the side? To make the car look lower to the ground? Whatever they're for, I hate them to.

Ugh, I just hate most car mods. I think this explains why.

Now is a good time to bring up an old classic.
2004-10-13, 9:54 PM #25
They're called "side skirts"....They come as part of a skirt kit that you get for your car.. Either way, it looks better than a lot of modded cars.

It's a show car, it's not really meant to be driven around all the time I'm guessing. Most people usually drive their modded cars around quite rarely, and don't even attempt to do so in winter... If it applies to you.

As well, the cars like that one which are extremely low to the ground, won't have their kits scratched. Most of the car's have air ride or some kind of shock absorption mod so that when they do run over a bump, the car just bounces over and nothing happens.
2004-10-13, 9:54 PM #26
At Helleq's post: Hahahahaha

To Temp: Show car?... So they spend all of that money just to look at it? Why would someone waste money like that?

You got that right, lowriders like that are ridiculous. One pothole and your car is scrap. :p

2004-10-14, 11:29 AM #28
Because you can soup your car up and enter it in car shows, and win big cash if your car wins a prize for what mods you have. Plus, a lot of people like these kind of cars.. So yeah, I suppose it's kinda a show off for those that own it as well.
2004-10-14, 11:42 AM #29
You got a manual tranny! :D Next, get a performance clutch, light flywheel, intake/exhaust and some suspension work. ;)

My friend went to LA a few months ago to visit his cousin. He said that his cousin owns a 422 Horsepowered Civic. Everything body wise is stock, even the rims. He put everything into his engine.

During the time he was there, he said he was in the civic and they were driving up some mountain type ridge when the cops tried to follow them. He said when the guy punched the gas to the floor he was strapped back into his seat from the force of the car taking off.

I dunno the validity of the whole cop chase story, but nothing he's ever said to me before has turned out to be a lie, even the far fetched stuff. That and the fact that I seen a picture he has of the guy's engine and mod's under the hood.. Basically, picture the engine you see of the green civic from Fast and the Furious part 1 (****ty movie btw).
2004-10-14, 12:03 PM #31
Even a 200hp car (if it doesn't weigh 4000lb..heh) will put your head back -- my car will jump from 4000rpm in first gear enough to throw whatever is on the floor backwards, and that's with ~130hp/125-ish tq..

Running from the cops is dumb, though. =)

Fast and the Furious... Before that movie, some people were modding their cars, and I didn't mind it. Then that movie came out, and everyone started doing it! Now it's everywhere. That is where my hate began.

Maybe it's just the Jersey population I'm pissed of with. Most people here, who mod there cars, actually believe a spoiler will increase the performance of their car.

Your sound system sounds sexy. :)

My buddy just dropped $1,600 at Future Shop on his system. It's an MTX 1000 watt amp with 2 800 MTX Watt sub's I believe. The thing pounds. Like, when he has all the settings on a relatively medium level, and you get in the car, it actually feels like air conditioning inside the car from the bass alone pumping from behind.

See, I agree with you there Chaz. After that movie came out, everyone wanted a modded car. The movie marketing worked perfectly.

It seems to be different from where you live... In Toronto there's tons of modded cars around, but they're different. You see more than just souped up civics going around. Pretty much every kind of car that can be modded up to the **** can be seen driving around in Toronto. And they have balls under the hood as well. I dunno about every one of them, but most of them that I have seen the owners have thrown stuff into the engine as well as the body. I actually seen a civic driving around that looked like a friggin BMW... I've never seen that before.
2004-10-14, 12:14 PM #35
I used to have a truck and I had 2 12" Solo Baric L7s. If I turned the bass up all the way on certain songs, it would make you sick to your stomach. Literally. I never usually had the bass turned up that loud when I was just driving around, but my truck came in handy for parties/hanging out/etc...
.
2004-10-14, 12:39 PM #36
I like the loudness of bass, it makes songs sound better, and I like the rumbling of cars. But I don't think I would want TOO much bass, since it can literally kill you if it's too high.

CadetLee- I've never been in a car that fast, at least to my knowledge. But I've gotten my lil 4 banger up there :p

I'd post a pic, but it's at home... and I'm not.

I'm considering my first car right. Extremely low budget since I'm a poor high-school student, but right now my boss might sell me his early 90s Cavalier. I think its a Z24. I haven't really worked out the details yet, but it's gonna be shared, so it won't completely be mine. And it's standard.

Any advice for first car-buyers?
