First time buyers should ALWAYS either have knowledge about cars, or take someone who has knowledge about cars with them to shop for cars. It's common knowledge that a car salesman will screw you over if he can, and with young people buying their first time car, they will take as much advantage of u as they can.

Nice, Z@n!

And Cadetlee, what upgrade would you say is top priority for performance?

Also, do you have any tips on keeping the car in good shape mechanically? (ie preventative maintenance)

I am morally opposed to cars.

Any advice for first car-buyers?
My best advice if you want a great running car that will last a long time and has good capabilities in snow, ice, rain, off-road, etc., has good gas mileage, etc., is an older subaru. Like one from the late 80s early 90s. I've owned two of them, one had 240,000 miles on it when I traded it in for a Jeep, the other my brother still drives and has 225,000 HARD miles on it. No major repairs to either. The problem is that they're pretty ugly and gutless, but you get any older american car and you'll have more problems with it than any japanese car. I recommend subaru over honda because they're cheap and more reliable in my experience.

Anyway, here's mine, although it's different now I've made a lot of modifications:

My 89 Accord was the best first car I could've owned.. but now as a beater I have an 89 Volvo 760 with just short of a quater of a million miles.. and the car has no rust. Not to mention they are tanks.
