I didn't know you could dnl an Xbox game, burn it to a DVD, and play it on your Xbox. How would you do that? Don't you have to encrypt it some how for the Xbox to read it?

Last I heard, the version stolen was in PAL format. So even if you DID get it, you couldn't burn it to DVD and then play it in an American Xbox.

That was yesterday though, I haven't read up about this incident today.

In all seriousness, I think you have to be a pretty big ******* if you can't wait 20 some days for a game.

There's a website....Where you can download all kinds of games for every kind of system, PC to Console. DVD Quality movies, Complete TV Shows... Etc.

But no linky. That's bad. :)

I heard about this.

Word on the street is that a release group called Diffusion did it.
2004-10-15, 11:55 AM #10
Hmm, I thought all Xbox's could play either PAL or NTSC games right out of the box, it just uses a converter or something for PAL games. Correct me if I am wrong, which I probably am.

I got my facts from Halo.Bungie.Org on the news page. They're usually quite reliable.

My roommate found a site with the file listings a few hours ago. It was a whole load of 47mb files or something. Silly warezers.

There is this one device that I know of that allows you to download GBA games onto it and play them on your GBA. You can also upload GBA games from the device to the PC as well. If used legally, you could create backup copies of games you own by storing them on the device or on the computer. You can also use it for storing several games on it so you don't have to drag all your game cartridges with you where ever you go. Sadly, this device can be easily abused since it doesn't take much for you to upload a game from the cartridge and distribute it over the net, as well as download ROMs from the net and put them on the device.

Is it me? Or does it seem that nearly every big game that was due this year has been stolen at some point or another?

Can't wait twenty days, then pay some forty or fifty quid for it.

My buddy owns one of those flash carts. He uses it for dev'ing - he's currently working on a port of Contra (NES) for the GBA.

Games that are distributed over BitTorrent are in separate files. It makes it harder for ISPs to track you, because you are downlinag little bits of 50 files instead of one huge file. The files are usually .001, .002 up to .050, like you were saying., Then all the .00x files combine to make the final image. Those silly warezers as you call them, are actually just being smarter.

how is a group thinks they should illegally obtain games to release them early and for free cool.

how would you feel if you had a big game in the works and someone stole it and put it on the web for free?

They're cool because they're a cool bunch of guys--I've met a couple of them. So why don't you shut up and/or go brag about how great Australia and its magical mind powers is (No offense to the other Aussies).

Is it legal to say if you've played it and/or your experiences here? If not, I'll say nothing, if so, I've got some post editing to do.

Not taking offense, just curious:
How did Australia's 'magical mind powers' get dragged into this, oh, and what mind powers?

I'd say this serves MS right for not putting this on PC. Think how nice it could have looked.

What's new?

I would think that game companies would invest more in security techology, but maybe I don't know how much they have done.

wouldn't matter. A lot of release groups work from the inside. They get jobs at the comopany just like regular employees. Members of release groups are a wide range of people, from college students to top execs. They blend in. They don't exactly wear "Hi! I'm a Warezer!!!" T-shirts.

They would probably do something like burn a copy of halo 2 from the dev department before it goes gold, stuff it down their pants, and walk out with it.

I find it funny, that a lot of the people that are against warez/hacks and downloading free games, are just as against the RIAA for going after people downloading music.. Duh.

I don't have an X-Box, so I didn't steal it myself, but...c'mon...I'm only human. Humans are curious. And there was a Halo LAN party last night. You KNOW it had to be there. So...yeah. <_<

This happens to almost EVERY game released, it just gets noticed more with the big games.

I'm skeptical. I think it's some bizarre controversial new marketing tactic (or an excuse to delay the game).

I don't think so. How would you explain the isos of these games available on the net before release (negative-day releases) if the whole theft is a big hoax?
2004-10-16, 11:52 AM #37
He's not saying it's a hoax, he's saying it's a marketing tactic. If they let a few people download the game (well, more like put it up, and then people swarm like buzzards), people will rant and rave about how good it is, and then the swing-buyers (people not sure if they'll buy it or not) will be more likely to buy it.

And also, if the game doesn't work on the PC, there is a vastly limited audience for the game who would have the knowledge to play it on their X-box, so they actually would lose very little money, and likely gain quite a large return-on-investment.

interesting theory.

I think they messed up here. Everyone I know is saying that Halo 2 isn't that great, Halo 1 is better, and is only going to get it because it's Halo. I must agree.
