Ok you've got the microphone (hopefully you mean a REAL microphone and not a computer mic but that's unlikely, oh well) and you plug it in to the mic in jack on your soundcard.
Then theoretically you can just open sound recorder which is supplied with most versions of windows IIRC and record your sound and post here!
But you'd be best off downloading a couple of programs to help get the best out of your performance.
Audacity - It's free, it's got a few useful filters for removing noise, dropping pitch etc. and it's quite good for multitracking. DEFINATELY reccomended.
Goldwave - It's quite cheap (about $20 IIRC) but I couldn't guide you through the latest version - 4.x was a bit more intuitive IMO. It's got some good effects but isn't really a necessity.
LAME - Freeware MP3 encoder. Absolutely brilliant. You can even encode in VBR. What more could you want? Use this or OGG vorbis (included in Goldwave, not sure about Audacity) to compress your files for posting here!
Some recording tips:
- You want your mouth at least 3 inches away from the mic
- Do a couple of test recordings and adjust the input volume so that you're peaking at around 80% of max volume; you don't want to go too loud because it'll clip and you don't want to go too soft because you'll lose definition, even if you turn the volume up.
- If you're getting pops you can try speaking through a piece of thin fabric, though this can muffle the sound.
- If possible don't hold the microphone - a mic stand is perfect and resting it on a table is better than nothing.
- Keep away from sources of noise e.g. noisy computer, TV in the next room etc. Some noise can be removed but not without detriment to the sound.
- Have fun when you do it and if you get frustrated just leave it and come back later. Try to get into the part as well.
