As previously said, that's still under scrutiny by many people.

No-one asked you to. Out of common decency and respect for the dead, many people would prefer you to keep your arguments out of a thread dedicated to the deceased.

This is directed towards you as well, TimeWolfOfThePast.

i did not compare the way the died. i compared the fact that they're both dead. dead are dead people. honest to god if someone made a thread about Kurt Cobain i wouldnt have nice things to say in surplus. but this is not about him. its about him dying. and opinion on this is not required like i said before but i think that flew over Wolf's head.

besides im not asking anyone to say good things just because its a rememberance of his death. its just a reflection of what happened.

and timewolf, next time you try calling someone a coward for attempting suicide, you better think twice because you dont know the severity of what you said

I didn't call them a coward for attempting suicide, I called him a coward for committing suicide. There's a difference between trying and failing and trying and succeeding.

(Timewolf)

You make me sick. I feel like throwing up. Is it possible for someone to be depressed, which is a sickness that a person can't control? Is it there fault they feel left out. No it's jerkoffs like you that make people depressed. For every kid you make fun of, you are just helping it along. Just because a person is suicidal doesn't make them a coward. I have known some suicidal friends, it isn't their fault. They try and help it, they really can't. It's a sickness. A sickness that nobody really pays attention to, not until it's to late.

Now, how about you(you know who you are) get off your god d*mn high horses and show some f**king common decency. NO ONE CARES IF YOU THINK NIRVANA SUCKED OR NOT. STOP ACTING LIKE YOU'RE THE GOD OF MUSIC AND ROCK. IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY, DON'T SAY IT AT ALL.

Not once did I ask in this thread for you all to bicker about if his music was good or not. He must have had his reasons for killing himself, everyone has different levels of crap they can take before they break. However, this ISN'T THE ISSUE EITHER.

So please, get back on topic, and if you don't have anything nice to say, please don't post on this thread.

Since you, the poster of this thread, asked me to stop, I shall. So I won't even bother replying to SAJN's post, whereas it'll just lead to a flame war.

...so now would be the time to whip out the Hitler's birthday/memorial thread?

Marilyn Monroe definately did not blow her head off. I heard on the history channel she overdosed on some drugs one night and woke up dead. *shrugs*

Let's get one thing straight:

It is not "In before the lock".

I say this assuming that you're trying to be cool like those "hip-gangster wannabe posers" on the image entitled "In Be-Fo' Da Lock (straight ballin)".

What this actually means is "[This thread] be in for the lock". (ie: "This thread is going to be locked")

What they have done is a form of inverse language - they have switched the places of the words in order to make it look original and cool. One might go as far as to say "hip"!

Sorry. It bugs me to no end when people misinterpret things.

(I bet someone's going to try to turn that last sentence against me.)

So what your saying is that we can only critisise nasty people when they are dead, everyone else we have to be nice about?

LOL I can see practically all historians being out of work soon. The very nature of history is to argue a contraversy, saying unpleasent things about long dead people is very much a part of that.

But as for the Kurt issue, I dont mind his music on the whole.

Its pretty well known that as soon as Kurt had a career, he claimed to do everything in his power to extinguish it (although I don't really bieleve him, because he was playing the game, making music videos and such, whereas Pearl Jam refused any sort of act). Regardless, he hated being famous, and to be honest he'd probably respect the people here more who are knocking him, rather than the ones who defend him.

Kurt Cobain does not need to be defended. It doesn't matter that he's dead. He wanted to be dead. He hated life, but moreso, he hated all of you, and not only did he hate you, he loved to hate you. That's what his music is about, and if you don't feel somewhat similarly, you have no reason to listen to his music. You can't listen to Nirvana and be all cute and innocent... That's the only thing I would imagine that would probably bring Kurt any offense. To some of you, Kurt has become just a face, a voice and a name. He was a man. Its not like defending him will bring him back from the dead, and he'll write songs about you.

In terms of his influence, it has undoubtedly changed music. It made 'alternative music' part of the mainstream. For a short time, the number of corporate manufactured bands was an all-time low.. but then the pop scene caught on, and thats that. Then we have Creed, Nickleback, whatever....

Oh yeah, and Pearl Jam > Nirvana

no smartass

im sayin we can critisize people any time we want. if they're good bad, skinny, fat, black white, albino, asian, martian. whatever. but when someone dies. and the thread is about them dying. or their death. who the hell asked for your opinion on them?! you can talk about their death. say it was a pity, or it was a crap death, or that you hoped they hadnt etc. but does 'i wasnt a big fan they're over rated' etc crap have to do with it? and i will criticize nirvana anyday, and i will certainly criticize hitler anyday. but its just like would you go to a ten year highschool reunion, and try to pick fights. its like jesus, its a time to let stuff go or atleast enjoy the topic: topic being youre reunited. you can hate the reunion. find the reunion an annoying waste of your time. but why the hell would you be like 'so like omg in like grade 11, like cindy set john's hair on fire! like omg how bratty is that'

The person who started the thread did.

If there were no other side, then there would be 5 replies to this thread saying "I agree" and nothing interesting would have happened.

This was the original post:

Quote:
Today marks the 10th anniversery of Kurt's death, let us all today remember Kurt and his huge contribution to music, and may his music and legacy live on forever.

That leaves a ton of room for question. By replying to it, whether you agree or disagree to the quantity of Cobain's contribution, by posting on this thread you still say that you remember.

Likewise, Wolvie, you should read what I posted above. Kurt wouldn't want to be defended.

Just for the record, you shouldn't start a post by calling someone a smartass.
