Bush is lying, Kerry is lying, the government lies. Does it really matter? Whatever the outcome, you all will be nothing but corporate puppets being kicked down table scraps aka. your salary.

I don't like John Kerry at all; I think that if either of them gets elected nothing really good will happen. I think we should try something called "learning from our mistakes". We've had Bush for four years, look around at what’s going on, if anyone here says that America is in a better state then it was before Bush was elected, their lying. I don't think Bush is a bad guy, or an "Idiot". I just think he is a crappy president. Likewise for Kerry.

So even Kerry doesn't do a whole lot better, at least it’s a change. That's just my mind set.
The tired anthem of a loser and a hypocrite.

What litte respect I had for some people here is rapidly dwindling to the point of non existance, unfortunately.

My whole family is voting for Kerry. And we're smack dab in the middle of North Carolina. Needless to say, it gets ugly down here.

Even if I did believe Bush was a better candidate, I would still pull for Kerry, just because 90% of the Republicans here are pure jerks when it comes to politics. It's me and a few other of my friends pulling for Kerry, and when people heard that, boy did they have a field day.

We've been insulted, cursed at, and spit on more than you can imagine. "Unamerican" and "Communist" is what I'm called all the time now. And don't forget "gay". Even my best friends are calling me gay. I keep on hearing "Well sense you pull for Kerry and Edwards, and they support gays and their 'rights', and most likely ARE really gay, that makes you gay, doesn't it?" No, you moron, I'm not gay, and if a gay is an American, than yes, I believe that he should have rights. It's a concept a lot of my classmates have trouble grasping. American=rights

Some girls in my US History class even SAID that they thought that Clinton and Kerry was gay with each other. They said that they had to be, they were Democrats.

Heck, it may just be my community, but its the Republicians who are hard headed and stubborn. I don't have much respect for someone who believes what they believe and refuse to even look at the other side of the issue.

Besides, he says he'll do it all smarter anyway. At best he'll be a one term president unless he manages to successfully ride the wave of Bush's economy for a second term like Clinton did.

That is... without doubt... the dumbest thing I have EVER heard anyone say.

Rats are superior to human beings, because they naturally and actively avoid painful stimuli, for example electrical shocks. Even though humans possess two ways of learning, through conditioning and through conscious memory, we apparently lost that ability and even enjoy chasing and elongating those painful stimuli. I really hope you'll be more like rats when you go voting, although I somewhat doubt it.

Ruthven, you want UK to have an influence in US elections?

I'm sure you know that's the reason why the Iraqis (at least the extremists) hate us right? Because we're trying to influence their government (even though it is for the better).

Sorry, but that's what it seems like you're saying -- you seem to want to pull an America on America.

In any case, the President is the US's representative to the world. He represents what we (a lot of us anyway) stand for and believe. He does not stand for what England belives. That's what Parliament's for.

But back to reality -- Bush and Kerry are both idiots who need to be shot (again). If these people are the best candidates the US has to offer, that's, well, pretty sad.
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

I'm going to reply to that with your own statement.

Quote:
Wow, way to be uninformed. You should try reading up on some facts

Everytime someone brings up the economy as an issue against Bush, I ask for some sort of explanation how Bush made the economy worse and I have yet to get any kind of answer, AT ALL. The economy is not in horrible shape right now. Look at it compared to the weeks and months after 9/11 and you'll see that the economy has been recovering for sometime.

Furthermore, the surfing analogy is bull**** for two reason. One, the US was is a recession when Bush was elected. You remember the tech bust, don't you? That had nothing to do with the President (Clinton or Bush). And then, of course, there was 9/11, and event that really screwed the economy. Again, the president had no control over that either.

Finally, if someone would actually answer this, what can the president do to improve the economy? What presidential power does he actually have to affect the economy? I know the answer to this question, but I'm really interested to see if you have a clue as to what can be done. Also, do you even know who drives the economy? If you did, you wouldn't be making uninformed statements about the state of the economy and who's fault it is.

I just figured I would warn you that someone will bring up 9/11 as something that could have been prevented, thus keeping the economy stable. If it was possible to prevent, that is unknown. Whether it's Bush's fault or the fault of us as citizens/the airport's that didn't have the proper security. It's up for debate.

.. and apparently, some of the most ignorant are sent here. What a horrible, horrible thread.. if you have not takena logic/critical thinking class yet, guys, then you have no business trying to argue for one side or the other (unless for some reason you were magically born with the skills that the rest of us have to work so hard to acquire, which I highly doubt) . Why? Because almost all of these arguments here are atrocious, and your lack of training shows. Don't blame yourselves; many of you haven't had the opportunity to learn how to evaluate and formulate arguments, and some of you never will/will choose not to. But please don't act as if you are having a serious debate, because it's not even close. How many of you have actually read up on a single issue, looked at the multiple sides to it, and chosen a side based on the most valid reasons, evidence, etc.? I would venture a guess and say very few could adequately defend their position on just one issue. So why even try?...

And please don't take this as an attempt to claim superiority.. I am still very much a work-in-progress with regards to critical thinking, which is why you won't see me attempting to defend any position - I simply don't have the experience or the ability (yet!). It's just that this thread is such a downward spiral and so far from reason that I couldn't stand letting it go on.. the only possible result from continuing this would be hurt feelings.
2004-10-31, 3:59 PM #79
We're a world power..

Sociology and Psychology teaches that human beings have a tendancy of abuseing power, rather than having power controlled.

Didn't say anything about bush, just giving my opinion on America and World Powers.
2004-10-31, 4:05 PM #80
Jipe: Not everyone conducts arguments the same way, nor should they. Critical thinking isn't just something you can "teach", necessarily. You can make the environment more conducive to critical thinking and give someone a few pointers, but after that, people conduct arguments with their own style, partially based off personality.

And Wookie, I thought I was your favorite debate partner. :(
