Toilet Paper
2004-11-01, 7:23 AM #41
This thread needs another dimension.

The question of loose paper over the top or under should be discussed.

Choices as such:

Over the top and scrunched.
Over the top and folded.
Under the roll and scrunched.
Under the roll and folded.

Sure, they don't have too much to do with each other, but it is an important question...much like whether you fold or scrunch.

I scrunch-fold. It ends up half scrunched, folded and stuff.

And I don't have a bog roll holder.

Fold, away from wall.

Scrunching is more efficient, as it increases surface area and tends to catch the feces in its crevices, and also exerts a higher frictional force for feces removal. That is also why extra soft toilet paper does not work nearly as well as coarse toilet paper; the lower coefficient of friction makes feces removal more difficult.

Yeah, I've always thought something along the lines of this. Not nearly as technical as what you said, but I've always felt scrunching was more "effective". Thus, it comes as no surprise when I say I'm shocked at some of the reasons folders give, such as the ones Spork gave. Sure, the coverage may be slightly more reliable with folding, but that doesn't do you a whole lot of good when your crack is still mushy when you go to pull your pants up, does it? Besides, if youre paying attention, coverage is not an issue with scrunching.

Is that your own theory, or do they have very informative and deep toiler paper commercials over where you live? :p

I think both are useful. I am normally require multiple passes, so I scrunch for the first pass or two (for the heavy cleaning), and then touch up with a fold. (All with a fresh wad of tp of course.) I have found it's the best way to insure maximum cleanage.

Mounting of the tp is always away from the wall at my house. I have actually switched rolls around at other people's houses before I use the tp, not even realizing that it could be mounted another way. I just assumed they were in a hurry and got it wrong.

Ah the sheer importance of this issue is mystifying. Anyway, I fold about 16 squares down to about 1.5 squares, wipe, fold, repeat. Yep. Also, the toilet paper is away from the wall as I may need to roll as many squares as possible off of the roll.

Good god man, that's a metric ****-ton of toilet paper.

The best option is clearly: Over the top and folded.

I fold and whipe while standing. I find this method to be superior, and although it may be a difficult feat for overweight people, I have virtually no ***, and have absolutely no problems. I get some of my greatest ideas while sitting on the toilet.

John Wayne Toilet Paper. It's rough and tough and don't take crap off of anyone.
