I don't think even I would vote for Hilary, and that's saying a lot. Not because she's a woman, I'm all for a woman/black/hispanic/whatever president, but because she's just a cruel, calculating, cold person of questionable integrity.

I find it funny (and very sad) that nearly 50% of the population votes against bush, but for some reason bush won't have to appeal to them in any way. He has absolute power and he can do what he wants, even if that means screwing over 150 million people. That's not very democratic.

I expected it would come to this.

I think Kerry conceding shows that he has more character than Bush made him out to; if the positions were switched, can you really see Bush conceding at all?

Ah well, at least it was by a wide enough margin to avoid too much confusion and recounts and nonsense.

Good riddance to Daschle. And yay, Obama won.

Hillary would make an excellent president. If she ran, she would totally have my vote with no consideration at all of who the other candidates are.

But didn't Bush only get about 47-48% of the popular vote in 2000? Where's the "majority rule" there? I beg you to answer.

I think the reason he pulled out is because he saw that he had lost, and he didn't want another 2000. If he had stuck in there, all of the voting mishaps that occured (absentee ballets, people not getting counted, etc.) would have been pounded and pounded around, there would have been a bunch of lawsuits, and he /still/ wouldn't have gotten elected.

By pulling out, he was doing what he thought was for the good of the country.

FOUR MORE YEARS!!!

*dances*

Seriously, though, Bush won fair and square this time. In 2000 there was a lot of controversy and the man didn't even win the popular vote. However, this time he won the electoral college and the popular vote. In fact, the number of votes he won in the popular vote was nearly 4 million more than Kerry, and the highest total ever.

Yea, the only thing this proves is that 52% of people in America are equally as stupid or more stupid than the fine candidate they voted for. Which is quite depressing.

Yes. That's exactly what democracy is.

The United States is not a democracy, it is a republic (by the Platoic definition), in that it has an indirect democracy. It is a democracy with limits, with rules.

Now, I try to stay as far away from politics as possible. I hate politics, politicians, and anything having to do with it, so please excuse me if I'm misunderstanding. However...

Bush was elected by the people. The majority of US citizens voted Bush. That's a democracy. Why are the democrats complaining about this?

Bush should take steps to unify the country now, like he said he would in 2000 but didn't.

Kerry wouldn't have conceded unless his loss was a sure thing. He would had to get a bizarre percentage of the absentee and provisional votes to win Ohio (around 75% of them). He is in a position now, as the rallying figure of the other 48%, to help Bush unite America more. Clearly Bush isn't gonna listen to everything, but hopefully he won't just forget about the opposition.

The TV ads were getting so stupid, but I only had one phone solicitation, and it was a Kerry one. I had nothing witty to say, though, so I just hung up.

Good point. Kerry should win because only 51% voted against him. He should have absolute power, even if that means screwing over more than 150 million people.

Hell, if we're not deciding elections based on votes any more, then I think we should just put Badnarik in power already.

I'm really glad it's over... I'm sick of election coverage now...I live in edmonton (Canada) and on top of hearing constantly about the States' election we're having a boatload of our own. Within the last year we had our federal election, and this week they finally got rid of all the signs from the mayoral election to put up new signs for the upcoming provincial. Yech!

Don't get me wrong, I recognize what an amazing privilige it is to take part in the democratic process and vote, but all the rhetoric starts to wear after awhile. The part that tires me the most is how the candidates are constantly bashing their competitors' personal reputations. Not everone will agree, but I think Bush has definitely gotten above and beyond his fair share of bashing in the last four years. Maybe this is just a necessary part of the process, but the level of negativity coming from the media/etc almost makes me whish Kerry would have won instead. At least that way there could be a new object of international ridicule for awhile.

Anyway, that's my rant :P. One more thing, if any Americans (of legal voting age) here didn't like the results of the election, at least be grateful that unlike the rest of the world, your compensation for being subjected to the whole affair was that you got to register a vote.

Um...saw this on a supporter's sign on CNN "W stands for victory!" and thought...hm, maybe in German...couldn't resist :P

^^ I agree 100%

Personally the way I see it I'm an American citizen without a president. I refuse to refer to that man as my president. He does not represent me or what I believe in, so others can claim him as their president but not me. For the next 4 years i'm without a president. Plain and simple. that's all I gotta say.

I'm not going to make this into a big thing, I personally do not support what he stands for. I think he's done nothing good for this country and now we have got to deal with it for the next 4 years adding to the insult of the past 4 years. Well he's not my president even if he's in office.

I"ll wait 4 years and pray that the next president will fix this mess (which is going to get worse in the next 4 years).

I'm so excited that the prices of gas are going to rise, the prices on medicine will inflate, that grants for students are being taken away, and people's personal rights (gay marriage) will be denied. Bush is definitely the best leader for this country, woohoo for 4 more years  [/sarcasm]

Um....it's quite democratic. Majority rule and Liberty(classical meaning). If you are going to argue against Bush based around democracy, go read some Plato and Aristotle and their discussions on the flaws of democracy.

Fair and square? Hundreds of thousands of black people didn't get to vote in Florida because their registrations were somehow 'misplaced'. That sounds very fair. Bush is stupid. Americans are stupid. The world is stupid. I'm moving to K-Pax.
