I already knew Kerry's chances of winning were slim when I got to school, and I was preparing for the barrage of jokes and insults exchanged about Kerry, soaking it all in. Well, some people were really rude about it. I've gotten a reputation for being one of the highdschool's lone liberals. People still like me, but I hate the way the students and even some of my teachers treat me as if I'm some wayward, lost soul who's deluded by the world. The just can't understand why I wouldn't vote for Bush. You see, I got to a very conservative, Christian school.

Well, I'm a Christian, Episcopalian as a matter of fact, and I try to be open-minded. But a lot of people just don't seem to know the meaning of the word. Im more or less centralized on the left-right political spectrum, although it seems a number of people at school are convinced I'm some kind of crazy liberal. I try and make it clear ot people that God isn't a Republican. It just so happens that Kerry is a Christian as well as Bush, but since he's a Catholic I guess that doesn't count. :(

If some one like John McCain was running, I might just like to vote for him, but since it's Bush, I'd have to choose Kerry. I don't like where this country is heading. With both the senate and the house of representatives now represented in majority by reps, and under the Bush administration, I reckon things will be very one-sided. I like things to be more open and co-operative, but this country doesn't seem to know the meaing of the word. I hate all the petty squabbling on both sides. I find it kind of ironic that after September 11, everyone had "United we Stand, Divided we Fall" bumper stickers. Funny how that, now the elections have come around, everyone has retreated to their own little corner to throw sticks and insults at whoever doesn't agree with them. The Bible warns us about being little lost, sheep, following wherever the otherl leads us, even if off of a cliff. I'm not saying this is what Bush is doing, but I am saying that too many people are just echoing what there parents have said or voting on something stupid like how the candidate looks. People need to be more open-minded and think for themselves. Otherwise, this nation's doomed.

Anyway, back to school, several people made jokes about it and taunted me a bit about Kerry. One kid laughed at me from down the hall and pointed his finger at me as I walked by. One of my best friends even poked me in the back and said "you lose." :( Fortunately, I have some good friends, who while are still Republicans, at least have the common sense to listen to the other side and are very supportive of me and my opionions. One kid told me he was going to think a lot more carefully about what he said in the future as a result of things I'd said. That was nice. :)

People at least gave Kerry a small pat on the back for backing down early on. I bet Bush wouldn't have done that. I don't like Kerry a huge amount, but I think he deserves some respect for going out gracefully. AT least Bush congratulated him, although I'm not sire how real a sentiment that was. I just think th whole electoral college deal is ridiculous in tihs day and age. And this girl had the nerve to say that Gore was a jerk for not backing down from the 2000 elections when he clearly lost. I told her he actually won the popular vote, but she would have none of it.

Well, my friends, some days I feel like just crawling into a box and hiding my face. I wish human beings could be a bit more tolerant, and it's kind of hypocritical when you're supposedly a Christian and you treat a possible president of the United States like that. It's just disgraceful. It deeply saddens me.

But I'm not going to go with the crowd just to blend in. I'll stand for what I believe in. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything, and I try to keep to that, but I always try to listen to the other side of things and keep my eyes open.

While I am a Bush supporter myself, I must laud Kerry for the manner in which he conceeded the election. I respect him for that.

Gore was an idiot for picking at the votes. There have been MANY elections where the winner did not have the majority of popular vote.

Anyway, we have a similar deal at our school, with one guy voting for Kerry, and nearly everyone else for Bush. They poked fun at him for losing, but I didn't see anything was extreme, and everyone knows he'd be doing the same thing had Kerry won.

Your statement about Sept 11. brings up a good point. Whatever happened to "united" and "comforting" feelings around the tragedy? The "togetherness" of many Americans? Nowadays, it's becoming somewhat just a political term used by politicians often against other politicians. "This is what happened before Sept. 11...", "This is what happened after Sept. 11...", "Because of Sept. 11..." Oh well.

I'm right there with you man, I've been getting that crap all day because I'm one of the very few democrats at my school. "Jerk" doesn't describe some of the people. "Haha, Bush won! He beat that liberal!" is what I've heard all day.
2004-11-03, 4:38 PM #13
It'd be the same situation in liberal schools if Kerry were elected. No matter what group of people you are with, there will always be immature people. That's just the way it is.

Indecently this is one of the reasons I'm against gun control. ‘Ol Besty and me shore have had some good times. *pats Colt M1911* j/k ;)

I have very few conservative friends. Almost all of them are liberal. I think they were expecting me to be an *** today because Bush won, but I didn't even bring it up. We talked about it a bit, but we just left it at "the election is over, Bush won, we have our differences, lets get on with life"

Wow. I'm sorry.

At my school, nobody bashes the only democrat supporter (one of my friends) -- maybe a little poke n fun, but nothing serious.
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

Where are you people from exactly? Just curious.

I'm from a Republican state (66% to 33% for Bush), but my school is still relatively balanced. The student poll we had a few days ago showed a 50/50 tie for both candidates.

You would never be able to force me to an overly liberal or conservative school. NEVER. I've attended a couple of schools that were leaing on way or another and that alone was enough for me. The ignorant "well, I attend this school because it's quite conservative/liberal" attitude the people in these places had is ridiculous. Suffice to say, these schools are where close-minded idiots are made in (and I say that without wanting to get on anyoness bad side here).

Hey, don't get me wrong, there are some very wonderful people at my school, I'm sure I was exaggerating a bit due to my depression about the whole thing. Life at my school just gets a bit hairy around election time, but hopefully things will calm down a bit now that they're over. Thanks for your support though. :)

Well, I just don't happen to like Bush very much or his policies, or how he's handled things over the past through years. I'm really not very extremeist in either category. As my one of my friends likes to say - "I'm too conservative for the liberals, and too liberal for the conservatives." Of course, at my school, that's already too far for most people. ;)

Because I know so little about politics, I don't know what politcal party I belong to. I took a few quizes, but they were very vague.

One quiz landed a dot by Gahndi (Yes, they had Stalin, Clinton, Bush, the Pope, ect.) on the political compass, and another totalled up to Colin Powell.

I don't like Kerry or Bush.

As a note, I also don't make fun of people's political or religous believes.

*Shrug* maybe the answer will come to me soon.

Ghandi and Nader basically fall on the same point on the political compass. Maybe you should've voted for Nader. :)

Cry about it why don't you.

What do you want, a thing of flowers? Bush won, of course people are going to make jokes about it. Hell, work today was a complete political joke fest going both ways - most against Kerry voters.

What do you think Republicans have heard for 4 years?

Be a man and stand tall. The best you can do is joke about it yourself... No matter what the issue is, people will make fun of it. I just don't see a point to your post...

Boquet, I believe is the word you're looking for. And, no, it doesn't justify rudeness and such abrasive behavior. Neither side has an excuse.

5) Not being able to speak

Etc. The list goes on - you get the picture. I think at least every day I hear one mean joke/insult against Bush.

And I know some people will say about the points on the list that "They are true", well, Republicans are joking that Kerry lost and guess what - it's true! That doesn't make it right.

I'm not justifying either side doing it. I'm saying its a fact of life - and if you just realized it now, I feel sorry for you. But thanks for your revelation to us!

Its a good thing that the college I go to, most people don't seem to give a damn. The only thing I heard election related today was "You should had voted for Nader, haha!", which was said in sarcasm. Its a good thing my teachers aren't the types that like to speak their minds. My English 1A teacher last year was that type of guy. That guy really pissed me off with his ranting about Bush. Teachers should really keep their political views out of the classroom and just reach the damn course.

A reason why I'm glad I'm a science major. sin(theta) = o/h no matter if you voted for Bush or Kerry. F=ma still holds true if you're conservative or liberal.

I can stomach what they preach, I just don't want to have the potential to deal with it day in and day out.
