That addicition thing is a joke.
Of course you play single player games alone, and what if during the day is the only time you can play it?
And even if it isn't, so what?
I'm not trying to deny my addiction, I'm well and truly addicted to video games, but that's no way to prove it.

Yeah, I suppose the rules break down a little with something like this. Playing alone and during the day isn't much of a big deal, seeing as young people have loads of holiday time and stuff. The idea of it is central to drug use really, think about it in terms of drinking or something..

That reply was to Thrawn42689 (omq did I get that right??)

The idea is that most activities you do with other people, and in the evenings/at the weekend seeing as most people have jobs. Anything that you do every single day is pretty hard not to classify as an addiction. And don't be so hostile.

From what I have read, video games have gone main stream around the launch of the Playstation. It was attributed to Sony's target audience of teenagers and adults instread of kids. But as for pop culture, it went as far back as Pac-Man. Remember Pac-Man fever?

Well, in relation to alcohol it is very accurate. But obviously it can't be applied to everything, especially the thing I won't mention because it was pre-empted.

Put it this way, have you ever turned down an opportunity to socialise because you want to get a bit further in a videogame?

If the answer is yes, you may be addicted.

Excellent point, which is also one of the things that bugs me about the stereotype. Playing games with friends is "cool", but playing games by yourself makes you a friendless wonder-loser.

Oh and for all those people having a whinge about maevie's list, get over it. It's fairly obvious that these things are not meant to be taken in the strictest literal sense but in context with things similar to what Detty said.

Does include making an excuse not to talk on the phone with someone because you are in the middle of an important part count?

I would never turn down an opportunity to hang out with some friends though.

The problem is, you say addicting like it's a bad thing.

I've always thought, that you like doing something, and it isn't harming anyone else by doing it, what's the deal? Same reason why I couldn't care less if a guy wants to marry another guy. It ain't my life, I won't control it.

Well, being addicted to cocaine is a bad thing. You could argue (playing Devil's advocate here) that being addicted to something like video games similarly hurts your social contacts, as you no longer want to spend time with anyone anymore.

If you're playing video games with all your free time, then it's kind of like they lose a friend...if they're not into games as much as you. Sort of like cocaine, I guess...except they'll lose a friend more in the sense of you being dead...and stuff.

Like I said, Devil's advocate. I don't see any problem with playing too many video games. But then again, here we are discussing this on a message board for a 7 year old game...

Apparently I'm totally addicted to living! AAh!

All I know about this whole video games becoming "popular" is that at my computer camp, there were people who the nerdiest thing they had probably ever done was send a picture of their girlfriend over AIM. And the reason they were there? They played Xbox.

I'm addicted to gaming... And so are 90% of my friends. We constantly play MP games everyday. What's that say? Social life AND computer game addiction. Although I like getting around a TV with my friends and fire up a GTA game, and take turns making complete asses out of ourselves.

I don't think things essential for survival count... ;)

Atleast Run seems to have gotten my point, which is what matters really.

Well, I do also happen to be adicted to studdying and doing homework... And that'd not essential for survival...

However, as for the socializing aspect, In almost all cases, if somebody wishes to speak with me, I immediately stop what I'm doing if it's game playing. The only times I wouldn't do that is when I don't wish to talk whatsoever, and obviously wouldn't stop what I was doing regardless of what it was, even if it was a chore.
