Everytime I show a Halo 2 fanboy the 23 minute HL2 collection of trailers he says it's definitely a better game. Only limitation of it IMO is that you'll need a pretty decent PC.

[edit] Didn't read the money part :o. It's a tough call, with Halo 2 breaking records and such.

Halo 2 - virtually a console game (yeah, I know it will evenutally come on PC but that isn't the focus audience)

Half-Life 2 - PC title only

Thus, Halo 2 < Half-Life 2

Then some magazines say that HL2 is the best game ever!

You forgot that with all the mods HL2 is several dozen games in one. so you need a few more <

That's the only reason I'm getting HL2--the mods. CS:Source, DoD:Source, Battlegrounds:Source, and a few other source mods. Not to mention I want to know what bloodlines will play like :)

HL2 by far. 98% from PC Gamer and an "arguably the best game ever made" says enough for me. I am sure it is going to kick some serious ***.

I don't think any of you read the poll... it's "which will make more money"....

I have no doubt that HALO will make more money. Tons of people I know don't even know what Half Life is, even if they know Counter Strike...

Halo 2 will definitely sell more. Ever since Halo came out, it's been the king of consoles. Consoles have become popular while PCs are still nerdy. Popular things sell more.

I played the first Halo and didn't like it. If Halo 2 is like the first as everyone says it is, then I doubt I'd like it.

So I'll have to go with Half-Life 2.

I just got Halo 2 last night... and OMG, utter total bliss in a box!! :D

On that note, I also read PCGamer's exclusive HL2 preview, and I also really want to get that. A lot. :D

So, I guess I like both of them, I need to get shot now. :p

Halo 2 will obviously sell more because PC gaming isn't as mainstream as console gaming like someone esle said. Kirby's right, can't we accept the fact that they're both brillant games?

Which one makes more money is really quite irrelevent. Some of the best games in gaming history were ones that didn't sell well at all.

I haven't learned much about these two games, but from what I know, they sound like they're just high-budget overhyped formulaic action games with fancy graphics and other empty gimmickry. But that's what sells. Hordes of obsessive fans will enthusiastically buy and play them, and talk about how they're the best games they've ever played, like young adolescent girls obsessing over the latest boy band.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they aren't just a rehash of the 'tried-and-true' action game formula with extra gimmicks. But I doubt it.
