I wouldn't be too sure about that, Page. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Seriously guys, there's a massive cultural difference at work here. Granted, the Korean Peninsula is a volitale place, but this is just a form of posturing that is commonplace in Asian cultures. Up until just a few years ago, China used to make regular threats to turn L.A. into "A sea of fire." They say this stuff all the time. Life goes on.

Boston, New York, and Washington? Yeah, LA, Chicago, Houston, Frisco, Atlanta, Detroit, Dallas, and Seattle are just little hick towns in the middle of nowhere... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif]

Heh, for being such a movie-buff, Kim's /got/ to have seen Wargames. Thus he /should/ know that the only way to wine a nuclear war is to tie up all the other sides military computers by setting them to infinitely play tic-tac-toe, and then you can attack while theyre defenseless.

At least that's what /i/ got out of that movie [http://forums.massassi.net/html/redface.gif]

What is wrong with you people(apart from the few who are opposing any kind of nuclear war)? Don't you realize all the innocent lives that will be taken away? The whole worlds going to be effected, even if NK is the only place that gets hit. Starting a nuclear war now is only going to open the door for future ones. PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DIE, GET OUT OF YOUR SHELTERED LITTLE LIVES AND REALIZE WHAT'S OUT THERE.

With wars like these you can never really get right exactly whats going to happen, it's not some turn based strategy game.

Maybe if he substituted NK with Russia. There won't be a nuclear war with NK. That's like swatting a fly with a Mack truck.

Chill. I don't think anyone in here is seriously saying that the U.S. should start a nuclear war.

While that might be true, there's still plenty of people out there that truely believe we should just go in there and nuke them.

Maybe that's true (though I doubt it), but none of them are in this thread. So the question remains, who are you shouting at?

People who might be simply viewing the thread? You or I don't know what every person who visits this board thinks, and considering the maturity levels of most of the members on this board, there's definatly a large chance one might think that way. When Jesus said "Love your neighbor", did he mean it to JUST those who were there at the time? No, he ment it for everyone. Get the picture?

There have been people in this thread that have said stuff along the lines of "If NK sends nukes to the US then the US will just nuke NK..." and then exagerate by adding something alon gthe lines of "...off the face of the planet." While this may be what would happend under the circimstances, I believe matrixhacker is trying to get accross the point that just because someone nukes you, it does not mean you should nuke them back. Using nukes against NK would be serious overkill. It simply wouldn't take that degree of firepower to end a conflict with them. We have enough bombers in the Pacific to level all the major cities in NK without the use of nukes.

In any case. The US will never be able to get anyone else to disarm their nukes or nuclear programs without first disarming their own. That's like holding a bazooka to a desperate man with a shotgun. It doesn't matter how many times you threaten him with your bazooka, he isn't about to drop the best deffense he has.

We should move into these Vaults underground! Who's with me?

On a serious note, most death after nuclear war (note the after, meaning I'm excluding burns, shockwave and crush victims) would be due to famine. Lots of crap gets thrown up, the lights go out, the oil runs dry, and yet we'll blame it on the other... no... wait...

The lights go out and we all starve. The end.

That is so true, no one would ever give up the only defence they have.
No sig.
2004-04-12, 7:34 PM #63
Yes because nuclear weapons are primarily a defensive counter-measure..

Kinda like how everyone in the US was soo utterly convinced that the USSR was at a standoff nukes-wise because of that whole belief in Mutual Assured Destruction. When in fact we were the only side who even believed in that. The Soviets had utter huge total self-sufficient bunkers under almost all the major cities which could basically house for extended periods of time at least all the important people and a lot of the common people as well. They had utterly no belief [probably correctly] that they would be destroyed in a MAD exchange. US surveillence satellites repeatedly found overwhelming evidence of these structures, even doing a comprehensive survey of the sites.. however when this information was presented to military officials they either completely discounted it ignored it or covered it up. [/tangent]

You know, I only read a little bit pf the posts but I have one statement and one question.

North Korea doesn't have the missile program to send Nukes at us. The only way they could get to us is through something like a suitcase bomb.

I keep seeing people pointing out how easy it would be to sneak a nuke covertly into the US and detonate it in the middle of a major city...but if it's so easy why hasn't it been done?

Contrary to popular belief, it's not nearly that easy. Odds are such a nuclear device would be spotted by satellite long before it was anywhere near us.

Also, what exactly is the strategic significance of Boston?

And those are from the A-bombs dropped to end the war with Japan. Nuclear bombs are way worse, and disperse alot more radioative material.

They're absolutely the most horrible weapons one could ever consider using.

And it WON'T just effect whatever city and the surrounding area, it'll effect THE ENTIRE WORLD.

So if you think you're safe living in the middle of nowhere, you're wrong.
