It was released last Wednesday, and I have been playing it since Sunday. It's quite good. Very pretty. It doesn't feel like Metal Gear Solid, because instead of using a radar to help the player hide behind boxes, one must use camoflauge to hide in tall grass and bushes (and also that it takes places in the 1960s). The jungle environments are large and open, not indoors as in the other two MGS games.
The game is significantly longer than the other two; I've got 8 hours so far, and have only fought two bosses (out of 7). The original Metal Gear Solid would have been completed by this time. One boss I didn't actually see die, and knowing this series, I bet I'll fight him again. People in these games have a habit of coming back if you don't see their corpse (even then, a corpse isn't a sure indication).
Has anyone else been playing it, or did it get drowned out in the Half-Life 2/Halo 2 hype like Metroid Prime 2? Thus far, I would hazard to say this is the best of the three MGS games (and that's really saying something).
