What MMORPGs have you played?

oh anyway I've played runescape, eternal lands, and the fourth coming.
I played rs 1 for a week then I quit. I played eternal lands when they just started it, back when everyone was a ghost and they had a toturial island and the wrath gave you quests. I loved it. Then our computer kept dying, and when I finally remembered it and downloaded it again, it was different. The game had changed. Not too much though, the old quest thing and the game story that I liked were gone and there were a whole crap load of people there. ppl+graphics+56k=lagcity.
It's a shame too. Fourth Coming was good but then they tried to make me pay for it. ha! I'll never pay!

Runescape forever!
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

i think his point was that he is sick of having to spend countless hours killing rats to reach the level required for other players to even fart in your general direction

That too, but mainly it just isn't very heroic to be killing bunnies and puppies and whatever else they have you kill. The whole point of an MMORPG is to roleplay some sort of hero (or villain), right? I don't think either particularly concern themselves with kicking puppies all day (I'm sure the villain would prefer to be slaughtering his ENEMIES and BATHING IN THEIR BLOOD than hacking at a puppy for 40 seconds).

There's no reason for you not to start off facing reasonable enemies.

Additionally, I think there needs to be some explanation as to why the Scarlet Crusade CLOSER to the Undead Base are so much weaker than those further away... Are they just sending their worst to die, or something?

Most of the MMORPGs that I spent a lot of time playing, the 'wildlife' you kill is aggressive stuff... WoW, for example, you kill wolves and bandits pretty early on...

WoW: Played Beta. Was better than Everquest, but still had the "slaughtering innocents" at the lower levels. Additionally, it's exceedingly linear; you go to one area, clear out the quests and level up, then go to the next area, clear out the quests... etc, etc. The world was tiny. Why can't someone make a "to scale" MMORPG? It's just ridiculous that what are supposed to be huge cities are about 200 metres across, and are separated from each other by five minutes of woodland. Morrowind has this problem too.

You need to play FFXI. Takes about an hour realtime to run from one major city to another. Literally, I'm not lying. That's not counting if you get yourself into battles.

Yeah, most of the monsters you kill are the aggressive type. There isn't a real reason to be killing the nice innocent animals like bunnies and cows. The only players that would kill those are the skinners since the advantage is to get some quick leather without having a fight on your hands. However, I always feel bad when I kill a small quite animal (especially bunnies - my father owns 30+ rabbit for pete's sake!) so I never go after them, skinner or not.

I was slaughtering kobolds and wolves at the beginning of WoW, and neither made any aggressive moves towards me, and their friends never even tried to help out their buddy I was murdering. This is a gameplay issue, I suppose, since they don't want newbies dying all the time, because later on monsters start attacking unprovoked, but why can't they do this at the start, too?

Because n00bs shouldn't have to deal with mobs and other players stealing their kills so early. After all, you level up to level 2 pretty fast on the first 8-10 kills.
