So.. what's the highest difficulty you've beaten HL2 on? For me, it's medium. I just got done beating it on easy a few minutes ago, and I plan to start hard sometime soon. It sure went faster the second time around since I knew all the puzzles and tricks (not to mention it was easier, hence I didn't die as often).

I'm playing on medium and I'm having trouble at Ravenholm. God the stupid bastards won't give me any goddamned ammo. I'm resorting to crowbar and grav gun here.

Yeah, Ravenholm has the least ammo of anywhere in the game.. It gets better, trust me.

In Ravenholm, use the gravity gun with sawblades/combustibles as often as possible. Either should be able to take out large groups of zombies in a single shot. Otherwise, use the shotgun and the magnum. Both are an instant kill if you get a headshot (and headshots also prevent the headcrabs from leaping off and attacking you)

I've beaten it twice on medium so far. Once my computer is fixed I'm probably gonna play through again on hard.

Played it on Medium then everytime i went back to beat it (beta it about 10 times now as well as HL:source on Hard). All in all HL1 was actually harder (those grunts), however i don't notice too much of a drastic difference in HL2 from medium to hard.

You really don't need ammo for that part of the game. After all, you just got the gravity gun so the game is tempting you to use it often for this part of the game. Like cow said, use the gravity gun to use the saw blades to cut down the zombies and ALWAYS aim for their heads (or head crabs to be more accurate). Don't waste the SMG on these zombies, it isn't worth it. In fact, the SMG is a pretty useless gun. I rarely used it when I play through the game.

eh, its useful when you get it and when you don't have ammo for any other gun... it simply isn't a weapon of choice.

I found all of the guns useful at certain points.. that was sort of the craft my playing through the game.. figuring out exactly what weapon I needed when. :)


Ravenholm is fun though.. its quite a gas the first couple times you cut the zombies in two with giant blades.

I'm about halfway through the railroad on hard. At first I was surprised how many shots it took to take down a CP guy, but it's 3 direct head shots with the 9mm. On average, if I'm strafing or something, 7. I tremble with fear for the time when I have to take down the regular combine guys which are much tougher.

I started playing on easy, and I regret it somewhat. I'm in ravenholm now, and so far my health has never dropped below 90, and my ammo is always full for every gun. I go trigger happy on some marine and empty two mags on him just for the heck of it, and in the next room I find two big crates with more ammo than I could possibly hold.

Just beat the gunship. That was...annoyingly easy. Now I'm at the crane part. God I love smashing combine soldiers with bigass metal train cars. :D

Flexor, it's where you get the RPG that you fight that thing for the first time. I think the crane is after it, then you fight more soon after.

And yes, the crane is fun. :)

In Ravenholm, I got to a point where I couldn't find anything to throw except boxes, and they did next to nothing. I ran over to one of those spinning thingies and it broke off when I hit the button, so I got mad and tried some nearby crates and crap...then I realized..."the spinning blade thingy!"

That thing is AWESOME in ravenholm. A little difficult to get around small corners becase it's big, but it seriously kicks arse. it can take out a wider area than the sharp razerblade things, but it's just sweet. I used that same broken spinning blade about 20 times to get around one part.

yeah, I remember that thing too. It's by far the best weapon in the game for the gravity gun. It has an enormous range; I don't know why. Maybe it glides along the air like an airplane or something. But it's so wide, and seems even deadlier than a saw blade.

I don't bother turning it on, because it slows you down. Just run through the mine all the way to the top.. The zombies can't even get near you.

I was using the crowbar in ravenholm. It just took me awhile to stop getting that "HOLYCRAPIMGONNADIE" reaction everytime I saw a zombie, and to realize they're actually killable. :p

Try playing the part right after you get the shotgun on hard. I'm stuck there right bow because FOUR of those things come at you for all directions.. I get owned over and over. :(
