Sorry if this is old news, it's new news to me.

Live-action, too. And with Spielberg at the helm you know it will have a big budget and cool special effects. High hopes for this one.

I second that. I really wish Hollywood would come up with some new ideas instead of 1) ruining good books 2) ruining good TV series 3) trying to remake old movies that were good in the first place 4)remaking movies that were always a lost cause.

Shut your dirty mouths you scallywags! Steven Spielberg can do no wrong. I should make you all walk the plank for such mutiny and other such pirate terms.

BUT THEAN HE RAPPED MY CHILDHOUD OMG!

Lucas made 3 overrated films. Spielberg has made many many many many great films. Spielberg will not go the way of Lucas, because Spielberg has talent.

Oh dear lord.
I clicked on this thread expecting to find some photoshopped poster.
I never expected this to be true.
I foresee terrible things.

You overestimate the ways of men.

And if by 3 overrated films you meant the Original Trilogy, you'd better pray I never come within a mile radius of you.

I don't think even Spielberg could make a Transformers movie good. The entire concept of Transformers is terribly lame.

The movies were entertaining. Then there are the geeks who camp out to see these films, they live lives according to these films. They've read all the books played all the games, they own all the cut outs, they belong to all the fan clubs. they LIVE STARWARS. StarWars IS overrated. Good films. Yes. As good as geeks make them out to be. NO!

A.I. was awesome. Spielberg kept Kubricks vision, he didn't even change many of the things he wanted to change.

Wow. You could at least give the movie a chance before bashing it. If it sucks, fine, but the damn thing hasn't even been made yet.

A couple months ago. Still love every single minute of them.

The only thing that's not up to par are the special effects...and those don't make a movie.

Meh, Transformers as a whole has gone down the crapper as of late. I mean, "Minicons"? I think I'll just stick to the original series (and Beast Wars, because that rocked too).

OK, there are two very important things to understand.

Spielberg. Transformers.

To repeat,

Spielberg. Transformers.

Again,

Spielberg. Transformers.

At the very least, this will be one of the funniest movies of the year.

When did it become fashionable to bash movie adaptations? As though there have never been good ones?

Let's think for a second. Did hollywood rape your childhood when they made the first ninja turtles movie? It's actually good. Then there's that whole Lord of the Rings thing.. Then again I suppose you spent your childhood reading things like Goosebumps.

I know. You'd think that with all prior acts that authorities would notice. But noooooo.

Interesting.

If the stories are true(which I still kinda doubt) about John Woo directing a He-Man movie, then both my old favorite series in my childhood will be revived on the big screen by some pretty good directors. Definately curious what the result will be.
The answer is maybe.

That is different. The movie came out a couple of years after the TV series had started (3 or 4 years I think) so anyone who watched the show in their childhood was still in their childhood when they saw the movie. Anyone who watched Transformers in the 80's is now an adult, or close to it, and so their childhood is not being "raped" I guess. You cant rape a childhood when its not even over yet. I dont even know how you "rape" a childhood in the first place.

I am rather confused here myself about that. Way I see it, my memories of my childhood about enjoying a particular franchise still pretty much remain the same, regardless of wether a bad movie adaption was released when I'm a so-called adult.
The answer is maybe.

Ok, have any of the Brittassians seen the new Citreon C4 (or is it C2) advert? With the car that turns into a robot transformer style and dances? It's amazing. IF Mr Spielberg can do something that cool, it's a winnar for me.

/refuses to bash it until he sees it, and wants too see it very very much
2004-12-28, 4:34 AM #25
I think that was posted here, Martyn. Atleast, there was a thread with a link to a clip and from the posts it sounded like that's what everyone was talking about. I saw it in the cinema when I went to see Bad Santa and yes, it was awesome. I want a car that can do that :(

We already had a transformer movie. Do we really need another one? Besides, nothing beats the G1 transformers. The current transformer series (Armada/Energon) is crap.

What you guys don't get, is I'm not saying it's going to be bad or good. Just don't make it. Transformers was years ago, and should be kept years ago. I want my sweet sweet memories to be all that I have of Transformers.

So in conclusion:

I hate you Spielberg and I hope you die.

Yeah, just like with the Lord of the Rings! Damn Peter Jackson, the LOTR books were from 1950s(or something like that, I suppose), he should've never made a movie out of those books! Damn him! He ruined all those precious memories. /_\

I am curious tho', heer Yosh, how can the memories from something you saw years ago be tarnished by something that you see later? Why can't the current generation(so to speak) be introduced to something that we saw years ago?
The answer is maybe.

God forbid I have an opinion on the matter though.

I just know it's going to suck. Why? Because the only thing from my childhood that's been made good on is X-Men. I didn't read LotR until I was 14 (even then still didn't finish it)

'oi, not sure what having an opinion has to do with this. All I wanted to ask was if you could elaborate.

And it seems you've had bad experience. Excellent, thanks for the elaboration, now I understand your stance a bit. Cheers.

How many movies based on cartoons from your childhood did Steven Spielberg make?

I rest my case.

2004-12-28, 2:06 PM #39
It just makes me want to shudder just thinking about Spielberg trying to turn this good cartoon into a live action movie. A live action Optimus Prime WILL look retarded, as well as all of the other characters. Don't do it, Spielberg!! You WILL ruin it!! Some TV shows just need to be left well alone. Just look at TBS and that retarded The Real Gilligan's Island show. What a waste of airtime!

Maybe Spielberg will transform into a good director. Granted the man has made some pretty nice films, but his latest ones have been predictable and boring for the most part.
