Microsoft buying out Bioware? Bioware has been one of my favorite companies for ages. The last thing they need it to become a Microsoft brand. Liked KotoR? Yeah, the second one is now doomed to suck.

seems like microsoft is destined to buy out everything.

I'm losing confidence in Kotor2 now, but I'll still wait and see how it turns out.

This is the whole reason (or at least most of it) why XBOX sucks. Because they can't convince these developers to develop exclusively for their system, so they just buy them out. Hell, they can't even sell them for money than it takes to produce them! What other company could sell millions of console systems at a loss and STILL have money to buy out all the good developers?

That is pure ignorance. XBox does not suck. If you don't like it, fine, don't buy it; if you hate MS for buying out companies, fine, don't buy their products, both of which I am sure you arleady practice. That's capitalism. But to say XBox sucks is a completely ignorant as well as rather stupid statement. XBox has produced several of the best games in recent years, such as Halo, both Splinter Cells, and KotOR, before they got to PC. I own all three major consoles, as well as a PC. I find the XBox to be the most enjoyable. Something that causes so many fun and pleasant times cannot suck. Go ahead and hate it, but it's true.

Also, in regards to the primary subject of this thread, I don't really care about Microsoft buying BioWare. Chances are I would buy KotOR2 for the XBox anyway. As long as it doesn't cause the quality of the game to be decreased due to employess leaving or other indirect causes, more power to Microsoft.

I've gotta say, that Xbox really doesn't have the appeal of the other consoles on the market. Xbox has only a few games that interest me, and the only reason that i'd ever bother to buy the Xbox is to take cash out of Microsoft's pocket (ok, the games would have some factor in there as well).

Nintendo Gamecube has some of the best games on the market (i can confidently say that for both myself and most of my friends as we're all fans of games from the Sega/Nintendo wars era). But with the GC's decline (a lot of compainies are abandoning it), i'd have to say the best stable console with good game selection is Sony's PS2.

But enough of my ranting. Meanwhile, HELL YES i'm pissed about Microsoft's idea to "aquire" Bioware. The most notable game by them that i've played (thus far) was MDK2 on Sega Dreamcast, and i've gotta say it was one of the most fun an immaginative games i'd ever played. As for Kotor, i can't give a firm judgement having neither an Xbox or a PC powerful enough to run it. Still, everything i've heard about it says its good.

I'm adimittedly tired of Microsoft trying to slap its name on pretty-much every piece of software on the market (that is probably the only the only valid part of my arguement. the rest is just ranting and raving [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif])

Halo is far superior to all of those games.

Nintendo is going down the tubes, as far as consoles go. The next one had better be really good, else they're not going to make it.

Hellequin, Ive played the entire singleplayer campaign (at a friends house) and a good deal of multiplayer, its just not that impressive as games go. The graphics are mediocre, the game moves too slowly, the controls are horrendous, and, while you can have fun getting a bunch of friends over, multiplayer is lame, the split screens ruining the point of the game. And what do you mean by "That zelda game wasnt very good"?

Um, the only reason those games came out on xbox first was because of agreements with MS. Don't you all remember that halo was SUPPOSED to be a PC game, but then the developers got bought out and they backtracked? Then they promised a dual-release on the same date, and we all know THAT didn't happen.

Eternal Darkness, Soul Calibur 2, F-Zero GX, Rogue Leader/Rebel Strike, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.
Those are just the games that I own and think are worth owning. There are a lot more that are worth renting.

Gamecube games that I'm currently drooling with anticipation over: Metroid Prime 2, Wind Waker 2, Four Swords+, StarFox 2 and a sequel to Paper Mario.

Okay... I really hate it when people call other people dirty, filthy fanboys, but this is just another dirty, filthy fanboyism.

Halo was not an impressive game. It brought nothing to the first person shooter genre and wasn't that impressive in terms of graphics. The gameplay was uninspiring and the level design was terrible. The only saving grace is that it brought networked multiplayer to consoles, but that's something the PC has had for decades. The only saving grace of Halo is that it was the only Xbox game on the market for about the first year or so.

This isn't a matter of opinion. My opinion is that Halo sucked *** and isn't even worth the honor of holding up one end of my couch. The fact is that Halo brought nothing new to the genre and didn't even offer the same amount of gameplay that we got out of Quake.

If you want to experience a real console first person shooter that actually tried to be something other than a Quake clone with a gamepad, I suggest picking up a used N64 and a copy of Goldeneye.

Nintendo used to have more programs in place to support their second party companies, and they used to have a lot more money and time invested in them. Lately Nintendo seems to be taking a step back from software publishing and focusing a lot more on developing their own games.

In addition: Silicon Knights produces maybe one game a decade. Eternal Darkness (a wonderful game) was originally going to be a N64 title. I wonder how much money Nintendo pumped into them to get that title out for Gamecube? How much money do you think they made back from it?
They're a good company, but I think Nintendo would actually profit more by having them develop for other platforms.

For the N64 and Gamecube, Factor5 has basically developed nothing but Rogue Squadron games. They contributed to the Gamecube's sound and video compression libraries, but really... Rogue Squadron games.
If you played the last one you know there isn't a lot of room left for sequels in that genre. There really isn't a big loss by letting Factor5 work on other consoles.

As for Rare: If you played through their lukewarm Gamecube offering (StarFox Adventures) you'd realize that Microsoft basically bit off its own nose when it bought Rare. They're far from a perfect game developer, and in spite of their acquisition all of their Xbox screenshots reek of in-house code porting.

I spent 2 days of the last LAN party I hosted playing 8 player team games and about 3/4 of the SP campaign before the god-awful game made my eyes spurt blood.

I clearly gave it a good chance, but I still didn't like it. In fact, I'm really curious to find out how you people can claim that a game that starts off horribly and then continues to be horrible for the next 10 hours is still worth playing through. Explain please.

It is my honest opinion that Halo is one of the most fun games I have played. I resent, no, despise, the fanboy reference, as I am trying to refrain from making lame attacks, name-calling, and the like. I am by no means a fanboy. The fact that I own and play regularly all three major consoles supports this. I own SC2 on Gamecube, as it is the best version availiable. The reason I left out SCII is that out on all consoles, thus not worth mentioning. The other games I didn't particularly care for. Rebel Strike was monderately entertaining, but the action was interrupted by those god-awful on-foot sequences, and really detracted from the game, overall.

Yes, Goldeneye holds the title for best console FPS in my book, but it is hardly played anymore. Halo is currently the most fun MP experience on a console, second only to Pandora Tomorrow over XBox live. SSBM takes third.

I will post more later, provided this thread is still open, as I have to go to work now.

Clearly dismissing other consoles because the Xbox has one good game doesn't make you a fanboy, rite?
BUT OBVIOUSLY THE FACT THAT I DON'T LIKE HALO MAKES ME A FANBOY LOL. DOWN WITH GAYCUBE KEKE LOL WTF.

You started bashing the Gamecube. You started it, Captain Fanboy, and now you're hopping around like a mad chimp trying to claim that I'm a fanboy just because I happened to defend one of the three major consoles against your ineffectual textual onslaught.

Before you decide to vomit more of your vapid reasoning upon us all, maybe you will remember the fact that I'm a Final Fantasy fanatic and that condition precludes a pre-existing disposition against the Playstation 2. Right, I'm just a giant Nintendo zealot.

Am I correct to assume, then, that you actually tried Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles? F-Zero GX? Eternal Darkness? Rogue Leader? Rebel Strike? Wind Waker? Metroid Prime? Super Smash Bros. Melee? Hell, how about the games that aren't so good but are still worth renting, like Luigi's Mansion? Mario Sunshine? Mario Party 4 and 5? Mario Kart Double Dash? Super Monkey Ball? Pikmin?
