First off, this is PG Rated at most, lets keep it that way, strictly educational.

Sorry, I slightly decieved you, I got you in here with a catchy topic to ask for some help.

I've always been one to claim a certain decent amount of knowledge about human anatomy to an extent, as well as certain systems of the body, such as the reproductive systems. Me and my girlfriend were discussing lots of different topics about birth control and how its taking its turns toward men, well somewhere along the way she said women are BORN with an amount of already produced eggs that will be released later in life. I found this to my surprise, I hadnt heard it before and suspected she was wrong, well it seems perhaps I may be wrong, but I may be right to an extent... If anyone can direct me to a good place to get information on the matter I'd be greatful.

Ive read that both women are born with the predetermined amount of eggs as well as that they may actually produce more... I just want to know for fact which it is, or if its still under examination... Any RELIABLE source would be great. Thanks!

I don't have a source, but I do know that it's not like they only have twenty eggs. It's well more than anyone would ever use.

If I remember right from my bio class last year, girls are actually BORN with a few hundred thousand eggs, which of only a few hundred will become mature and will be expulsed from the ovaries during ovulation. Yeah something like that [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]. Problem is that I sold my bio book off after I was done the course so I can't double-check that for you, although someone else here probably could because I might be wrong.

DDR, Thanks, however that theory has been under experiment of how true it actually is that women dont continue to make eggs, and that is a fairly old (4 years) article. Thanks tho, every bit helps.

There was something in the news recently about findings in mice that seemingly contradict the idea that women have a fixed number of eggs. The findings aren't final though. At this point I think females are supposed to have a fixed number.

Do women really need to keep producing eggs? I mean, a woman who starts menstrating when she turns 12, and stops when she turns 58 only needs 552 eggs. And that's assuming she never becomes pregnant...

with technology the way it is, that is no longer true to an extent. Men still have the upper hand when it comes to business and government, but that is changing rapidly, at least in the US and Britain.

Not completely true. Women do have egg-producing germ cells throughout their life, and could produce more eggs if the majority of the already existing eggs were damaged. Generally though, they don't need to.

No, thats why women take everything from men in divorces so easily, or why they usually get out of tickets easier, or are taken lighter on most diciplinary actions throughout life.

I saw an interresting documentary about a reaserch that would suggest that men are designed to be more intelligent and logical while women tend to have better memory and a better sense of organisation. Of course, if any results come through from this reaserch, you won't hear anything about it on the news - because it's not politically correct'. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif]

Yeah, women do have it easier socially(in western culture anyways). Sure there's still isolated cases of sexism here and there but it goes bothways - only men can't complain about being mistreated without being labeled as a sexist woman-hater. There came a point in the mid 90s where the feminist movement was so 'in' that people started being afraid to criticize it, and in some cases, the quest for equality became a quest for superiority. Sometimes the same effect can be seen regarding racism.

A good example of this is television.

I don't know if anyone has noticed but the way men are portrayed in advertising has changed drastically since the earlier 90s. Now it's commonplace to see the man being portrayed as uneducated, idiotic and immature, while portraying the woman as superior and more intelligent. If the roles were switched, feminist groups would be all over them - but this way, no one dares to say a word, by fear of being labeled as a sexist.

Yeah, the good ol' "All-knowing" father role on television is long gone. Frankly though, I don't mind. T.V. would be boring without the humor, and it doesn't seem like men mind all that much being the object of jokes.

I'd bet alot of money that's true. And yes you won't here about it because everyone is unquestionable equal. (Although women can say they are smarter then men)

Thats because guys dont give a crap, we dont care, because we know that one idiot doesnt portray us all, but if one girl is portrayed as a certain type of person, the whole group tends to rise up and complain. Guys are just more laid back.

bah, no one really takes feminists seriously anymore. They are no real threat to us.

Besides, a lot of the writers on TV shows tend to be guys, so this isn't some feminist conspiracy to take over the media.

im not sure if anyone has posted this, but we are discussing this in my bio class now, and our teacher said that recent findings lead scientists to believe that women are actually NOT born with all of their ova that they will ever have, but in fact there are stem cells (i think) that can grow more. Dont quote me on this, cause i dont remeber the details to well, and since it supposedly is a recent discovery it might not be entirely true.
