I came across an interesting hypothetical question recently, and thought I would pose it to you all here.

If you could inhabit the world of any novel, which one would you choose?

I know I would choose Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Being a Kourier would be the coolest thing ever

THE ANIMAL FARM!

wait.. lemme think about this.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

That's a difficult one. I guess I'd be stuck between Middle Earth (Lord of the Rings), Emond's Field (Wheel of Time) and Westland (Sword of Truth). I'd probably be a farmer with a few related busines ventures. Ah...the peaceful life.

Dante's Inferno. Don't ask me why. Hell just seems like it would be more interesting than Heaven.
Who made you God to say "I'll take your life from you"?

It's nice and warm in Hell. ;)

That's always fun to tell people during the winter when I'm politely asked to go to Hell, "At least it's warm there."

Hmm... I can think of several possibilities I would have to choose from.

- Watership Down
- Out of the Silent Planet/Perelandra/That Hideous Strength (CS Lewis' Space Trilogy)
- Narnia

Maybe A Song of Ice and Fire, although I'd probably die like every other character. Lord of the Rings would be cool.

Oh, and of course Star Wars.

Dune, I have the greatest respect for the Fremen. But if we are not limiting ourselves to strictly novels, then Independence War, I would give anything to pilot a dreadnaught for real. Hell, I’d even be content with a patcom…

I'd actually like to live at Hogwarts (Harry Potter). It's always just struck me as a great place to live. (well, go to school) Maybe Middle Earth as well, depending on where and when, but I would probably have to say that Hogwarts sounds like the best [fictional] place to be.
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

I dunno.. I'd like to live in D'hara post Darken Rahl from Sword of Truth. Peaceful wandering around a huge arse palace buying stuff all day.

I'd say on Pern from Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. I read it in middle school, and I fell in love with dragons.

Don't MMORPGS exist for this reason, well any how, one of these:

- The Lord of the Rings
- The Last Samurai
- Dragon Heart
- Star Wars
Nothing to see here, move along.

I don't know how peaceful it would be with that barbarian communist invasion from south going on... But otherwise I can appreciate your choice.

Yeah. I have always thought that place could use one more evil wizard - it'd be a cool place for me

Terry Pratchett's Discworld, no question.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

I've always thought that it would be a lot of fun to be in Talon Karrde's operation on Myrkr, from Heir to the Empire.

Battletech Universe, and as for world, probably Ironhold. The capital of the Jade Falcons, my favorite faction.

That would be truly amazing.

The Battletech universe (esp. Ironhold) would be very sweet, though... I've always wanted to be a Jade Falcon MechWarrior! :p

I really can't decide...

I would have to go with David Fientuch's "Seafort Saga" world (which is really just earth, only in the future, but I think I'd want to live on Hope Nation)... Or maybe Orson Scott Card's ... gah, what's the name of that story... Where they're all marrooned on a planet trying to gather enough iron to build a spaceship, but they're fighting, and they all ahve special .. skills that follow from what the founder of each clan specialized in. that one. :p
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

I like the idea of living in the Harry Potter universe. It's a culturally medieval world connected to the modern world! I wouldn't have to give up the internet.
For the same reason, Myst/D'ni is also appealing, though I'd prefer a version of the Myst universe that doesn't deviate from the classy 18th/19th century steampunk-without-the-rust style of the original game.
I'm just a little boy.

Ankh-Morpork or perhaps Genua...
Hmmmm.... zombie lawyers or zombie hookers...
...
What, you don't think that dead girls like to party?
If anything, they have more freedom in their party choices.
No "morning after", in ALL meanings of the phrase...
I think my imagination actually just shut down there.

I was going to say Dune, but on second though, definitely discworld. (And an honourable mention goes to the Sword of Truth series and the Ender's Game series (Not the Ender's Shadow series... we practically live in that world anyways))

I hate to admit it but harry potter.... lol

Or Narnia.
2005-02-17, 1:17 PM #40
Oh man, Brave New World. I've always loved that book

/sarcasm.

god I hated that book...
-----------------
What was that one story...
the one with the grendel, but not hte one about him.

The one where the guy is with some warriors and grendel attacksthem... then he goes to find and kill the grendel.

THAT was sweet. I would love to be in that story.

Or Michael Chrichton's Eaters of the Dead/13th warrior (movie).
I just like the time period/story in that.
