Let me keep this simple folks:

Last week:

- Content with life in general
- Going out lots
- Being popular/centre of much attention
- Asked if i was a male model
- Chinese girl wanting me baaad.
- Seeing New girl (what? No katana swing?)
- Made even more new friends (too many to count)
- Ego so big my cranium almost sploded
- Healthy

Today:

- Starting to feel sad (mainly because...)
- Got cold from too much physically contact with new girl who is ill
- Not enough money to go out a lot
- Not seen many people
*and now the real crap comes along*
- Pet Dog Dying, Has to be put down.
- Mum gone insane with grief about dog and other factors
- Locks dad out of house, locks herself in.
- Dad walks out on family, said "he will be in touch"

+ behind on mod
+ behind on art portfolio
+ still no job to pay for living expenses

Life is sh**.

I think I'll go smoke 40 cigarettes and wash it down with a bottle of kaluha and vodka.

Or instead, you can make use of that time by looking for a job? Seriously, sitting around and pittying yourself only makes you more pissed at everything. Believe me - I know. All I can really suggest is to find something to occupy your mind so you don't keep having bad stuff on your mind all the time. Works for me. Try it.

These events prove nothing. And some of them aren't events, but conditions which are self-imposed. Getting sick is nothing more than getting sick. All people routinely get sick. The fates are not against you. Lack of money and work is a self-imposed condition which can easily be changed, assuming you do something about it rather than sulk.

Seeing few people seems like a plus to me, but if it isn't to you, then there's nothing stopping you from going to see them. Your dog is dying. Is it a surprise? Did you know he or she had a medical condition before now? Is it really more than a coincidence? I doubt it. As for your parents, why is that making you sad? Their situation seems like it's between them. If it turns out for the worst, at least it's happening now rather than when you were eight. You should be an independent adult who doesn't need to depend on his parents now that he's what? 18? 19?

Dude, my 16 year old dog was put down this year. Also, people have been pretty rude to me, causing a decent loss of friends. Some teachers hate me, and they get mad at me and I still don't know why. I'm on a shortage of money. My sister has had the flu, my mom has the flu, which means in a matter of time I am most likely going to recieve this gift as well. I love this girl who doesn't share the same feelings for me...

I know this isn't exactly as bad as what you got going on, but for me at this age (14) it's pretty rough (don't make fun). I'm getting through this, and slapping on a happy face. I think you should too, because sitting around crying about it is pathetic.

Cheer up :)

Tofu, I know you're sardonic, but most of the time don't mean to hurt anyone. Well...the guy's hurting, and this is a place that he's turned to many times before. If someone's depressed, do you tell them "Okay, well you know you can always jump to solve the problem."?

No. You help them. If you're annoyed by this, I ask that you not say anything, even if you're thinking it, that is detrimental. Not to mention Clan's a good guy, just has a few problems.

Maybe it was a mistake to post this here, who knows. Maybe in a couple days Clan will feel a bit bashful for doing this. Until then, can't you just keep your mouth shut?

My point is is that a lot of that stuff can be fixed. But instead he chooses to come here and whine. I do feel bad for his family problems but most of the other stuff is his own fault. Is this clear enough for you?

Who cares whose fault it is, he came here for support from friends, not beration from people who are too busy being high and mighty to realize that the man has some problems he'd like to have some help working through. Maybe they are his fault, so what? What in god's name gives you the right to come in here and stomp all over him for sharing his problems with the board?

And this may sound a bit personal, and that's for a very, very good reason. I've been in a similarly ****ty position with no one to help me through it, and I realized how much I wished I could have had someone to at least talk to.

I got your point the first time around, tofu, and my point still stands.

Uh, no, you didn't get the point. What I'm saying is is that he's wasting his name. Gaining the sympathy of forum goers isn't going to help him out any. Instead, he should be trying to solve his problems. I may have not said it the most polite way but I've never been known for being eloquent.

Now, if you feel the need to further insult me please do it with private messages. I'd hate to ruin this thread more than it already is.

How do you know it won't help? If you knew the first thing about psychology or depression, you'd know that support from others can be very important. It doesn't matter if it's through an impersonal message board or miles away, it can still help. One of the symptoms of depression is lack of motivation, almost like a laziness, but not quite. It's not like he can just get up and go, "Welp, time to fix my problems!" Come back when you've educated yourself.

All it takes is a minute of thought to come to the realization of what's causing the depression. "Hm, I'm depressed. Why? No job, no money, no friends, yadda yadda yadda." Once you figure out what is causing it, go out and fix it, unless you like being depressed.

...it doesn't work that way. If you could just say, "Hey, I know what's causing my depression, time to fix it!" then depression wouldn't be a problem. When you're depressed you can be overcome with feelings of uselessness, laziness, etc. You can want to do something but not have the motivation to do it. Contrary to laziness which is just "I know I should do that, but I don't want to." It even goes for enjoyable activities, hobbys and stuff that you normally like to do, but can't find the motivation to.

Damn, people, stop talking out of your asses. Go educate yourselves.

Wait! I want to reply to this forum before it gets closed. :-) In any case, clan, I want you to know how sorry I am to hear about your problems. When my dog died a few years ago, my dad was devestated. It's always hard to lose something important to you.

Aaron: You should cut back on the substances, they will only make your problems worse. You're only masking them with chemicals. Not to mention they will be a drain on your coffers. I remember why my cat had to be put down because we couldn't afford the surgery. I had him since I was...11 up until my senior year of high school. So yeah, I was attached to my cat. It. Sucked. ***. But, I eventually moved on.

About your parents. I came from a dysfunctional family. My parents bickered and argued A LOT. I hated my childhood. But as I approached late teens, I just ignored their problems. Let mom and dad duke it out for all I care. I've got enough **** to deal with currently. It still hurt thought. Don't stress over your mod. It's just pixels being rendered from data on an inanimate silicon device.

Thanks for the help Emon, that's exactly what I was going to say :) Well, sans the links. I just know how it feels to be depressed, and how much better it is to at least know that someone out there knows your plight, and is supportive.

I think the main reason depression is a problem is that people let it become a problem. Depression sets in when you let it. As corney as it sounds - thinking positive (and keeping a journal to vent in!) is the best treatment. (That's what the therapist will tell you to do any way.)

Read what I wrote, and follow the links I posted. Many depressed people do think positive, depending on what their depression is like. Depression can cause negative feelings and feelings of worthlessness, but a lot of people that know the causes of their depression and are aimed towards fixing it think positively, but that hardly fixes it. Thinking you're going to get good grades doesn't make it happen.
