I know that this works for some people, but frankly, if it does, I don't think what you've got is depression. Yes, everyone feels low from time to time and if you tell yourself it's not that bad or whatever then you might be able to pick yourself up, but that's just not the case for everyone. As Emon has said, depression can't be fixed just by thinking positive, when you can barely drag yourself out of bed, telling yourself that everything's fine and dandy certainly isn't going to make any difference. Frankly, it's insulting that you'd say so. Playing down depression doesn't help get rid of it, it just makes the sufferer feel more lost and helpless.
And also, I'd like to know what qualifications you have in treating mental health problems that allows you to predict what a therapist would tell someone.
