Our school doesn't have a cafeteria, which offers a great oppurtunity for each class to make money by selling food in the gym. They compete and get one day to sell food. Because of this, we all have thousands and thousands of dollars, which is plenty enough to rent out a the big museum around here for a night (which is, surprisingly, a great place to do it) and still only charge about $10.

ECONOMIC GRIPING FROM A CLASS LEADER FOLLOWS:
I'm part of the student leadership for our class, and I would also like to point something else out here:

Unfortunately, two years ago we built a "food court" which makes food and sells food at a reasonable price, but well below what the classes can manage. The food court sells crappy food at a low price, so all of the business goes there. Money made from the food court is divided evenly between the classes, and because it has all but stripped us of our business, there is no longer any real sense of competition. We no longer advertise or even try to get people to buy the food.

This is the reason why the senior class is by far the richest class. The junior class does not have nearly as much money as we did when we were juniors. The sophomores have much, much less than we did.

Prom is run by the juniors. Our prom last year had better punch, a better DJ, better props, and door prizes. This year was just kind of "meh". I shudder to think of next year.

My school has been ruined by communism. The juniors can't throw "junior breakfasts" anymore or "junior barebeques" like WE did when we were juniors, because 1) they can't afford it and 2) they can't just spend the money they get from the food court on whatever they want. It's very disappointing, but at least I'm on my way out. Also, the food is much crappier (homemade crap instead of Arby's, Pizza Hut, etc the classes used to sell).

And yet, no one understood why I threw up insane amounts of protest when they started building that blasted thing. No one understood why I campaigned against the "Communist Culinary Court Program" (as I so cleverly labelled it). But they do now.
FOOLS!

Edit:
We're also currently having a horrible time trying to create a kickass class trip. Apparently we are no longer allowed to spend all of the money in *OUR* account at the bank, and it will instead be divided up by the school and given to the other, poorer classes. We get a small amount which will result in a crappy class trip, and then they get what's left in our glorious account. How wonderful. The other officers and I are seriously considering embezzling a few grand and taking a trip to Kentucky to rent houseboats.

Awesome. I wanted a hat and a cane, but they banned canes this year because of "fear of violence".

At least I danced the night away like a madman.

From a Christian school perspective it's called a "formal" and you just dress up nice and go eat somewhere. In our case it's a Hawaiian buffet. *sigh*
As student council president I'm not sure I've planned this very well.

I go to a Christian school, but we had both :P

We had a "Winter Dinner Dance Formal" at a local place called "the pinnacle center" which had a huge room and their own waiters and dancing afterwords. But we also had a legitimate Prom at the Museum.

my old HS had arbys for lunch several times a week, and that's why I jumped the fence and snuck out to get something good.

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

Unless that hotel is a 5 star, I still win. Dancing on a floor surrounded by expensive paintings, high chandaliers, and knowing this is also where the representatives, senators, and the governor do business just gives it that extra "hoity toity" feel. I should have been specific, I meant state capitol building.
