First, we aren't granted any rights. Not in the US anyway. What is true is that the government is restricted from limiting our rights. Now, what rights does the Patriot Act limit? I haven't noticed anything since it was enacted and I have heard no American tell any personal stories of how they are being affected negatively by the Act.

I'm sure there may be some problems with the Patriot Act and maybe the next time around the senators that now oppose it despite voting for it will actually debate it and offer some constructive changes.

Well, you see where I'm going with this.

Um, No. But you do it all the time, so I guess you'd know better than me.

Surveillance Under the USA PATRIOT Act

Well, you won't notice anything since one of the main problems with the Act is the unconstitutional powers of secrecy that it gives the FBI. :p

I don't know if problems are occurring now (though it's very possible), however it certainly opens the door for future abuses.

I don't get it.

Like I said, I'm sure there are some problems with the Patriot Act. I just happen to disagree with much of what the ACLU said in that short article.

I'm Wuss, but you are welcome anyway. ;)

Also, Wookie... which parts of the Patriot Act do you have problems with? I think that makes a big difference in the debate. For example, I have no problem in streamlining the process that allows law enforcement agencies to share information. However, I am opposed to searches and seizures without warrants and secret searches. It's unconstitutional and just opens the door for abuse. You don't want some future psycho administration rifling through your property in secret simply because you didn't vote for them (and neither do I!).

C’mon, you are a conservative! It’s all about the small government, man, the small government! ;)
