GT4 is the best game ever
2005-03-11, 6:33 PM #41
we do have american racing games... and i would be just as pissed if they had 4 banger Mustangs from the 80s thrown in which are a disgrace to the namesake. Granted a 'national icon' it still is pointless to have that many for it makes the car watered down in my eyes... whats teh best one?? the most numbers or the one with V-spec but then theres 5 of those... i dunno but i like the game its just ****ty... I would say the Fairlady Z is more of an icon then the Skyline... skylines also are not sold in america so i maybe i dont get the trend but that many of ANY car no matter how 'great' is honestly pointless... to me.

So that's why my 'mad banger racer guy' friends all have skylines....right?

I found out for sure, there's 13 skylines in the state of washington, a relatively hot import area.

The game isn't about having only the coolest cars ever. It's meant to be a virtual car musuem (hence the simulation aspects of it). Honestly, having that many skylines probably doesn't take up much memory (since they can probably use the same model for multiple variations), so it doesn't bother me.

They have very old cars in this game for historical reasons. So why not variations of new ones?

Hey, one the coolest races I've had with my friends so far was a Vovlo 240 stationwagon vs one of those tiny old Fiats I forget the name of in the Italian circuit with the crazy narrow streets. Pushing crap cars to their limits is really, really fun :)

Oh, and Nike One is cool! It's got 8 (yes, eight) gears which it abslutely tears through, it handles like a go-kart, plus it's so low to the ground the speed sensation is awesome.

Skylines are great cars, and the best ones in the game are able to compete with just about anything else. Someone said it before, they are the car in Japan, so the extensive list makes sense.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Number one complaint is there are too many cars in this game! Seriously, if the best complaint you can come up with is 'there are too many Skylines', uh, dont drive them..? Drive one of the other six hundred and fifty cars in the game.

i agree with you on i could drive the other selectin of cars my complaint was just why put time and energy into more assorted cars. Having crappy cars in the game certainly gives teh good cars a comparable reference. I am not complaing about to many cars just rather that a game that says it has over 600 cars has so many 'repeats' where it could have more variation for car licenses it already has. The volvo 240 is hilarious....

and dj yoshi i have no idea what you meant... rephrase?
2005-03-12, 6:18 PM #48
I do have to agree with the 'too many repeats' part. The Skyline is a great car, but......come on! I'll be confused when I win a new one, that's actually a new one! :p

Oh, and Yoshi meant " Why do all of my 'racer' friends all have Skylines, if they are so '4-cyl' lamers? "

Exactly, this game is as much a virtual museum as it is a racing game. Since there have been so many championship-winning skylines, they are all in the game. What does make me mad is the lack of Mustangs in the game. They have a new Mustang GT and a Shelby GT 350 and THAT'S IT. I want a BOSS 302, Mach 1, K.R., Cobra Jet....the list just goes on and on. At least there's a '69 Camaro SS.

Has anyone used a wheel with this game yet? I bought one today and I've found it to be almost impossible to use.

edit: Almost forgot, MY car isn't even in the game! The Sentra SE-R Spec V :( It's a great car, it should definitely be there. Especially if garbage like the Toyota Vitz is in the game.

If you have a usb thumb drive, it may be compatible with your ps2 and you can save the photos to it then print em out on your pc.

Dang! Is that in game? I thought it was a photo until I saw that post about transferring it. That is one nice skybox.
2005-03-14, 6:50 PM #59
Technically that is in game. There are a few little areas which are designed for placing a car in a picturesque spot, placing a camera, and taking a photo. You cant actually race around where that pic was taken, but it is the PS2 pumping out those graphics.

Is the PS2 able to do it at 30 fps 60hz though? or do you set the lighting quality to high before tapping some "render frame" button?
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.
2005-03-14, 7:21 PM #61
Havent really played around with that mode myself, but I believe you can move the camera around the area in real-time.

You can move both the car and the camera, but only one at a time and only within certain areas.

If you save your replays you can take photos of your car in the race. It's pretty neat.

So hey I just found out you can plug a USB thumb drive into the front of your PlayStation and save images directly to that.

How do you do that? I've got both a ps2 and a usb stick :D
2005-03-15, 9:41 AM #67
There's a USB port on the front of the PS2. It's below where the controllers plug in if your Playstation is lying down flat (to the right of the controller ports if it's standing up) in a blueish area.

Just plug the drive in, take shots, then when you save them instead of memory card select USB flash drive.

At the highest quality they save at 1280x960 with a file size of 200-300kb, so if you've got a decent sized memory stick you can fit heaps on there :)
