I got accepted to RIT
2005-03-14, 6:45 PM #1
I got accepted in the Undeclared Engineering Technology program at Rochester Institute of Technology, just found out today.
2005-03-14, 6:47 PM #2
As an RIT-ian, let me be the first to offer congrats. :)

Unfortunately, I'll be graduating in May so I wont be around when you're here. You should come visit us before then, though.

Nice. Didn't even realize you were of-age, so to speak.

Not quite sure what to do next, like decide if im actually going to attend or not. I'll have to take out a monster loan no doubt, but im told its always worth it. Anybody have a word of advice on that?
2005-03-14, 6:51 PM #5
So, how many -ians have been accepted to RIT?

You probably should get some financial aid from the school, I dont know anyone who goes here who didnt get any. I got $27,000 personally. As far as deciding if you want to attend, like I said, come visit and stay in one of our dorm rooms. MB, Emon, and I will give you a real tour, show you the things you dont see on the normal tour.

(or if staying in a strangers dorm room is too sketchy for you, there is the park plaza hotel that is adjacent to campus and walking distance from the dorms)

It's a good technolgy and art school, and the social aspects seem to be right up most -ians alleys.

There goes the neighborhood!

On an unrelated note, there's a car on campus with a plate that reads "RAWR"

I believe that there's a strong chance that someone here may be responsible. Either that, or the owner of the car is a furry. or both.

Also, if anybody wants a tour of engineering stuff, you can let me know, since I don't think any of the three previously mentioned RITassians are engineers.

I'm engineering science. I started out in aerospace engineering.

I really want to go, i've been excited about it for a long time now. I filled out the FAFSA, but I dont think we'll be getting much from the government because our income and stuff. I havent looked into aid from the school yet, but i certainly will.
2005-03-14, 7:35 PM #14
Ok, make that KGCOE stuff, building 17 in particular.

I think "rawr" is a bit more widespread than that. :p

I'm "going" to ASU. I should have applied to RIT, though. I wanna meet some of you guys.
2005-03-14, 11:12 PM #23
Glad to hear you got accepted. Can I ask why engineering tech and not engineering? Just curious. Engineering tech tends to be easier but makes less money, I assume you know that?

Also, we would be happy to meet you and give you a far better tour than what they give you.

Art school?

Mayhaps they have.. PAINTING CLASSES?

If so, what are the credentials required for being accepted?

That's right. My favorite part was the genetic engineering laboratory, but the most fun section was definitely the phaser shooting range.

Oh, and the sharks that shoot bees out of their mouths that shoot laser beams out of their stingers. Those were fun too.. taught me never to go in the water again.

You do need to have a portfolio, so that means you should have taken some art classes during High School. Other than that, I really wouldnt know. I suggest contacting the school and finding out. Our Art stuff does tend to be technically related though, like medical illustration, graphic/industrial design and such. The photography department is pretty big too.

I'd like to go to RIT. Any chance you guys picking up the campus and bring it to Kentucky? I'm sure they wouldn't mind it if you brough it down the Ohio River...
2005-03-15, 2:21 PM #29
I would love to go RIT.
But, by the time I get there, you all will be long gone :(
2005-03-15, 2:56 PM #30
Dud! You werent supposed to talk about that stuff!

Rob, we do have a big art school here.

Requirements really depend on what you want to go here for.

Only one of the best in the country. It helps when every significant country related to photography and imaging science has its headquarters located in the same city.

Not for me. Thanks to you guys and the lovely concept of socialism, I pay little more than I would at a state school. Sans classes perhaps.

understatement of the freakin century man. rochester is like the Mecca of photographers. three words: the eastman house. the freakin eastman house! *ahem*(on a related note: Esteemed photographer Linda McCartney's maiden name was Eastman, but was of no relation to the Eastmans of Eastman-Kodak. before she married paul she was married to a man with the last name See. People didnt believe either name when she told people she was a photographer.)

if i hadnt been so busy when i visited MB, i would have looked up the 3 or 4 photo majors i know there. but when you're only in town for a couple hours, you dont have much to go on, ne? as i hear it, you can sign out any equipment you want(with a deposit which is returned to you when you return the equipment) including medium and large format cameras(8X10 negs *drool*) and all of the digital equpiment. freakin D2H's man!

I dont pay that much either. Thats the cost before scholarships and grants and what not. In fact, I dont think I've met anyone here who actually pays the full 30 grand out their own pockets.

$30k isn't too bad since obviously, as stated above, you won't be paying all of it.
where i'm going this fall it's only $18-19k per year but it's a much much much smaller school heh

i thought about applying to RIT and GA Tech just for fun to see how much scholarship they'd give me (academic) ;)

/me sighs and returns to studying for the ACT (fourth time is the charm? er... or is it the third? d'oh...)
