RIT is one of those schools. My high school average was a B to B- (mid to low 80's... not sure how that translates to GPA).
Also, MIT has a reputation among other tech schools for being an absurdly tough school with way too much emphasis on competition. I've heard horror stories about students sabotaging each others work and research. Granted, I've never been to MIT so I dont know if this is true or not, and RIT does have its own problems (the student retention rate is an absolutely horrible 68%, and the social life is lacking in many aspects). I think it does say something about MIT though that at every tech/engineering college I visited during high school, I heard at least one person say "Regardless of where you go, do not go to MIT." Just a warning.
The one thing I really like about RIT is that for the most part, its not a Research School. This means that the professors at RIT primarily to teach. As a result, we have a lot of good teachers and professors here... They are all very aproachable and easy to get along with. They are not strict; privided that you put a reasonable amount of effort into your courses they are willing to do a lot in return for you. Out of the 40 or so Professors that I've had here, I can honestly say that there are only 1 or 2 that I would not take a class from again.
